Start the summer of 2009 rocking and rolling! You are in for a big treat from the Pinoy Classic Rockers (PCR) eGroup and website which will celebrate its summer reunion on July 25-26, 2008 with a show for everyone.

Such grouping which was formed over the Internet in January 2002 is the custodian of the on and off stage stories and experiences that were never made public. It is also an avenue where members of the group, not only from the Philippines but from London, Japan, Canada, USA, Australia and other countries, can contribute to help those in need through sharing of their talent thus providing inspiration to aspiring talents as they strive for excellence and perfection of their art.

PCR’s 2009 Summer Reunion-Jam on July 25 will be held at the New Union City Sports Center, in Union City, located in the East Bay of San Francisco, and on July 26 at the elegant Intramuros Club, located in South San Francisco. During the 60's, 70's and 80's, Pinoy bands/combos had been playing all over the Philippines and also abroad. In 2002, Ben Yanto (a rocker himself) founded the the egroup, Pinoy Classic Rock. It was his dream to unite all the Pinoy Rockers worldwide. For several years now, the PCR have held reunion concerts in Manila , La Union, San Francisco bay area and LA. This is one way to have a reunion and fellowship among musicians or "musikeros".

SEEN IN THE CITY

‘Villa Estrella’ Now Showing Here In San Francisco

On the occasion of TFC’s 15th and Star Cinema’s 16th anniversaries, ABS-CBN International’s Starry Starry Store brings to the U.S. four of the hottest and brightest young stars in the Philippines via Star Cinema’s teen horror flick for the summer called, Villa Estrella.

Starring Jake Cuenca, Shaina Magdayao, Maja Salvador (who were among the top celebrities in the recently held blockbuster Star Magic World Tour Concerts in California) and Geoff Eigenmann, the film will screen in San Francisco and San Diego starting July 10 and in Los Angeles-Cerritos starting July 17.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic domestic and international reception to previous thrillers like Feng Shui, Sukob and T2, Star Cinema decided to venture anew into the horror-mystery-suspense genre. The film outfit found the perfect director to do the job: Rico Maria Ilarde. The son of 60s radio and TV icon Eddie Ilarde, this De La Salle alumnus and California film school graduate’s filmography lists several horror-suspense-fantasy films that include Sa Ilalim ng Cogon which competed at the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Fantasy Film Festival, the Aquarium episode in the 7th edition of the long-running horror franchise, Shake, Rattle & Roll, and Altar which won Best Picture at the international film festivals in Rotterdam and Vancouver and just last June, topped Uruguay’s Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival which features science fiction and horror films.

What mystery surrounds Villa Estrella? People who visited the place were never found again.

“The movie is actually the story of a woman disturbed by recurring dreams,” says Ilarde. “The main thrust of the movie is trying to uncover what these dreams are all about.”

That woman is Ana (played by Shaina Magdayao) who has been bothered by nightmares about people being killed. The twist begins when Ana and her friends, Alex (Jake Cuenca), Dennis (Geoff Eigenmann) and Giselle (Maja Salvador) wander into the dilapidated Villa Estrella, unknowingly diving into the resort’s web of mysteries. They discover that the villa houses spirits, tormented souls from the past who are out to exact vengeance. Will the four friends be able to escape unscathed or will they suffer the same fate of the spirits that lurk in the villa?

Highlights to watch out for in the movie include Ilarde’s unique treatment of the most terrifying moments and the breathtaking underwater scenes of Magdayao and Salvador which were shot in Pansol, Laguna. The actresses had to undergo professional swimming lessons to be able to act while being submerged continuously.

“Summer is a season of action and thrills and these are what we are offering to all fans of Filipino films by way of Villa Estrella,” said Kerwin Du, ABS-CBN North America’s head of theatricals. “This film is packed with enough suspense, twists and turns to keep moviegoers on the edge of their seats.”

About ABS-CBN International

ABS-CBN International was established in 1994 to be of service to the Filipino worldwide. With the launch of its flagship brand, The Filipino Channel (TFC), the company became the first and most successful Filipino broadcaster in the United States. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, it is the largest business subsidiary of ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading broadcasting company. that it inspired the Kristine Hermosa-Jericho Rosales movie of the same title. But his going to the United States and performing all over Los Angeles and the Bay Area took a toll on his music career in Manila for he had to start from scratch as what usually happens to celebrities who would leave their career in Manila and would try their life in the US. Undaunted by this challenge, Divo Bayer, Roland Diana in real life took the challenge and made the rounds of small lounges and Filipino community events. Slowly his hard work is paying off as more and more people are starting to recognize her soulful, raspy voice that never fails to mesmerize his audience every time he belts a song with bravura rendition. Divo’s gritty but surprisingly soulful version of a music from the play Turandot entitled “Nessun Dorma” would always leave people in the crowd enthralled and requesting for more. But his prominent talent to whistle-sing is best demonstrated with his own version of Lani Misalucha’s hit “Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin.”

Divo Bayer hails from the city of Olongapo and he worked as marketing assistant for Duty Free Philippines and also as a casino dealer. After a few TV exposures,
