(MANILA, PHILIPPINES) - The 21st Chief of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Director-General Ronald Marapon Dela Rosa aka 'General Bato' was honored with the prestigious 2016 Gusi Peace Prize International Laureate last Wednesday, November 23, at the Philippine International Convention Center. (MANILA, PHILIPPINES) – The lone Filipino awardee in this year’s Gusi Peace Prize Laureates is no other than the 21st Chief of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Director-General Ronald Marapon Dela Rosa aka 'General Bato.' Dela Rosa was honored with the prestigious 2016 Gusi Peace Prize International Laureate last Wednesday, November 23, at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Dela Rosa joins a very short list of previous honorees from the Philippines - Asia's First Tony Award winner (she also won the Laurence Olivier Award for the same role in ‘Miss Saigon,’ the original) Lea Salonga (2009) and The One and Only Philippine Superstar Nora Aunor (2015), Secretary of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) Chief Ma. Regina ‘Gina’ La’O Lopez (2005), just to name a few.

Other Laureates this year include, Dr. Kingsley Faulker (USA), Atty. Amor Masovic (India), Dr. Jiang Baoguo (Japan), Dr. Phillip Fiddler (Egypt), Hon. Kmamahiya Lal Ganju (iran), Hon. Daisaku Ikeda (Romania), Hon. Ahmed Kashadah (Sudan), Dr. Khalid Ismail (Syria), Hon. Bani Adam (United Kingdom), Hon. Nicolae Banicioiu (USA), Hon. Abdalla El-Badri (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Arch. Mousallam Sakka Amini (United Kingdom), Hon. Nicolas Hagger (United Kingdom), Dr Vincent Giampapa (2014 nominee for Nobel Peace Prize from Newark, NJ) and PM Timothy Harris (Saint Kitts and Nevis), among others.

Per their website, Gusi Peace Prize was founded in honor of Capt. Gemeniano Javier Gusi, World War II Guerilla Hero and Madame Teodora Sotejo Gusi, parents of Hon. Barry Gusi, geared towards advocating the rights of the Filipino people towards peace, compassion and understanding humanity. It is a charitable foundation whose main objective is to recognize and give proper recognition through the conferment of awards of excellence and distinction to individuals or groups worldwide who have distinguished themselves as brilliant exemplars of society or who contributed toward the attainment of peace and respect for human life and dignity with the following categories such as follows: Academe, Scientific Research and Discovery, Physiology or Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Journalism, Statesmanship, Philanthropy or Humanitarianism, Economics, Cinematic Excellence, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Engineering Technology, Religion, Politics, Poverty Alleviation, Literature, Cultural Heritage, Internationalism, Architecture, Archeology, Ecosystem and Biodiversity and Biology.

The weeklong Gusi Peace Prize celebrations started with the welcome reception for the honorees with the Committee Selection Board for followed by a Peace Summit at Vivere Hotel and a Sino Luso Medical Forum which combined the Global Medical Experts from different parts of the world. They gave a series of lecture about their specialized medical expertise (co-organized by the Philippine Medical Association; PMA President, Dr. Irineo Bernardo was in attendance).

There was also a wreath-laying ceremony held at the Rizal Park where the 2016 Gusi Peace Prize Laureates marched in honor of Philippine National Hero, Jose Rizal.

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, in one of her very rare appearances, performed ‘On The Wings of Love’ to the international audience’s delight. Singer/Model Mikko Gusi also sang while Superstar Nora Aunor and Lloyd Samartino added star power to the event.
