(MANILA, PHILIPPINES) - Without a shred of doubt, 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach (beautifully captured here in her final walk wearing Dubai-based Michael Cinco creation), is considered the Most Popular Miss Universe, ever (aided by social media, Steve Harvey controversy and the craziest pageant fans - The Filipinos)! NEW MISS

UNIVERSE

(MAXINE PLACES TOP 6)

SEEN IN THE CITY:

(MANILA, PHILIPPINES) – Sixty Four (64) years after they won their very first one and five (5) months after her evening competition gown was finished, France’s dental surgery student and oral hygiene advocate, IRIS MITTENAERE is crowned Miss Universe 2016 in the Best Hosting of the Pageant, ever (according to Miss Universe Organization President, Paula Shugart) held at the Mall of Asia Arena last Monday morning, January 30, 2017! Her win was later marred by her Translator’s confirmed misinterpreting portions of her answer to the highly charged Final Question (“Name something from the course of your life that you failed at and tell us what you learned from that.”) – she missed first year of her medical school was erroneously translated as ‘she missed her first year of casting.

Celebrity Erwan heussaff, a fluent French language speaker, offered on Twitter (it reportedly went viral and shot through the roof during the critical judges’ deliberation minutes) the following ‘correct’ translation of Iris’ answer:

I have failed several times in my life. I thought I had failed my first year in medical school because my name wasn’t on the passing list. So, the very same day I went to buy a new set of medical books to keep on studying. I think when yu fail, you need to stand up and keep going - we are all able to do so.

If I don’t win tonight, I will still keep on smiling tomorrow because I am proud to be part of the Top 3 Finalists. I’ve learned a lot from my failures and happily, I did end up passing my first year of medical school.”

Iris’ version is deemed ‘a lot better in content’ than the one rendered by the translator, thereby sealing her victory further in public opinion! She later defended her translator saying he did a good job (proof: she won!).

First Runner Up is Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier while Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar was declared Second-Runner-up.

The lovely Philippine bet, Maxine Medina, highly criticized by local pageant enthusiasts for her poor public speaking, poor education, poor command of the universal English Language and lack of critical thinking skills, successfully hurdled the Top 12, Top 9 and Top 6 elimination rounds by sheer beauty, toned body, acquired poise, overflowing charm and excellent catwalk skills. It was considered a decent finish by the hometown girl, considering her Q&A limitations.

A native of Paris, Mittenaere is 24 years old and currently pursuing a Degree in Dental Surgery. Her Miss Universe advocacy is dental and oral hygiene.

During the competition's Top 6 Q&A, she was given the most politically-charged question (“Given today’s worldwide refugee crisis, do countries have an obligation to accept refugees, or do they have the right to close their borders?), Mittenaere’s politically-correct response: “The country should have the right to open or close their borders. Throughout the world, people can choose to have the borders open or closed. In Europe, we have open borders. In France, we want to have the most globalization that we can. We want to have the biggest exchange of people that we can. Maybe someday that will change. But now, we have open borders, Having open borders allows us to travel more through the world and to find out more about what’s out there in the world.”

DALY CITY, CA, January 25, 2017 – Before the Filipino indie blockbuster hit, “That Thing Called Tadhana” (That Thing Called Fate), became the highest grossing Filipino independent film of all time in 2015, there was this film described by Richard Kuipers of Variety as “a lively laffer about cynical filmmakers planning a ‘poverty porn’ drama solely for the purpose of scoring free travel to international film festivals”.This claimed the highest grossing Filipino indie film crown in 2011. In fact, it became the official entry of the Philippines in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 84th Academy Awards.
