Yam Laranas’ “The Road” now more than 100 Days in iTunes Top Sellers!

Congratulations to Yam Laranas, Director of GMA Films’ “The Road” for breaking the 100 Days (and still counting!) barrier of being consistently in the top of most downloaded horror films! This is a first in Philippine movie history – a feat that is very hard to achieve considering you cannot force people to download any movie no matter how much marketing push you make. In today’s very technologically advanced age, it’s either movie audiences want to watch the movie and then they download. Or they don’t act all.

Buoyed by favorable critic reviews and word of mouth endorsements, “The Road” continue to make history. The well-acted horror movie stars today’s hottest teen stars Alden Richards, Derrick Monasterio, Renz Valerio together with TJ Trinidad, Marvin Agustin, Carmina Villaruel, Rhian Ramos, among others.

Jeannette Catsoulis of New York Times, one of the US top critics review reads “A powerfully atmospheric blend of ghostly encounters, horrific situations and missing-persons mysteries from the Philippine director Yam Laranas.

Critic Rob Nelson of Daily Variety says “This low-budget shocker eventually pays off, displaying just enough narrative ingenuity to compensate for a cinematically crude and logistically sketchy deployment of the requisite blood-and-guts mayhem. “

Meanwhile, Los Angeles Times’ Robert Abele raves “The film's three-pronged narrative does a fair job of laying a spooky groundwork for the revelatory emotional sadism that lies behind most acts of evil; it just takes a bit of clunky exposition to get there. “

The Road’s iTunes online synopsis reads “Three teenagers go missing in an abandoned road after a joyride gone wrong in a haunted road. Luis Medina is the police investigator assigned to the case. In the course of his investigation, Luis finds the remains of another victim in the same abandoned road. The corpse is identified to be that of one of two sisters who both disappeared ten years before. Luis must dig deeper into the secrets and mysteries of the ghosts lingering in the dark of the desolate pathway in order for him to find the three missing teens. As the mystery unravels, Luis discovers a history of brutality and murders that will cast shake him to the core.”

This Columnist was fortunate to be the first ones who saw the movie here in the US and I equally proud as Yam in disseminating this great information to all the global Filipinos. If you haven’t seen it, download now at iTunes.com.
