NO GO:

PHL BACK-TO-BACK HOSTING OF MISS UNIVERSE GONE KAPUT

SEEN IN THE CITY:

(MANILA, PHILIPPINES) – HOW TRUE, that the Philippine Department of Tourism’s (DOT) interest in the next edition of Miss Universe being held in the country again this year, has waned after consultation with a major major would-be financier yielded unfavorable response? Meaning, the back-to-back hosting is a NO GO?

A very reliable source revealed that this decision was mentioned by DOT Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo in a meeting with key people on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at around 6:50PM (Manila Time).

A little over a month ago, talks circulated that the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) approached the Philippine Department of Tourism to host the next Miss Universe Pageant again, after successfully hosting it last January, 2017. Apparently, the MUO management and staff were very happy with the turn out of all pre-pageant activities (high-profile events were held in Vigan, Cebu, Davao, Boracay, Batangas, Palawan among other cities) leading up to the Grand Coronation Night and Grand Finals held at the full-packed Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2017. Manila Mail Newspaper and ‘Scenes In The City’ were there in person, witnessed and heard first hand the huge successes of some of the official pageant events held in Davao, Cebu, Conrad Hotel, Okada Manila and MOA. A foreign media colleague told this writer, “I have been covering this pageant for over thirty (30) years and I can say this is the best edition/best hosting of the Miss Universe, ever!”

The MUO offer was confirmed by DOT Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo in several news reports published days after first talks came out. Talks about the PHL back-to-back Miss Universe hosting was further reinforced when MUO President Paula Shugart flew in to Manila on June 8, 2017 and had private dinner with LCS CEO and President Luis Chavit Singson at his residence on June 10, 2017.

If the last hosting of the Universe’s most prestigious beauty pageant took the organizers herculean efforts last year (talks have it that it was even canceled at least four times before finally seeing its fruition), most pageant aficionados didn’t expect this 2nd try at PHL hosting to be any easier.

GO or NO GO? As of now, it’s still NO GO. But then again, things abruptly change, especially during the monsoon rains in the PHL, so stay tuned!
