AMERICAN IDOL DAVID ARCHULETA SIGNS WITH TV5

(AI Runner-Up is latest to sign after Megastar Sharon Cuneta & Superstar Nora Aunor)

TO-BE SEEN IN THE CITY

Bound to shake up the Philippine entertainment industry, the nation’s’ most exciting network, TV5 (their Christmas ID says ‘mas mas mas masaya’), has reportedly signed American Idol young super singer/star David Archuleta, according to an email sent to this Columnist and a phone confirmation from TV5 Executive Jeffrey Remigio.

The hugely popular American Idol is scheduled to arrive in Manila on January 13 to do a primetime series for TV5. The signing of Archuleta is seen to further boost the attempts of TV5, currently the third biggest broadcasting network in the Philippines, to climb up the rankings.

The network also earlier signed deals with, among others, Philippine superstars, the legendary Nora Aunor and "Megastar" Sharon Cuneta, actresses Ruffa Gutierrez, Maricel Soriano, Lorna Tolentino, and Alice Dixon, and actors Aga Muhlach, Edu Manzano, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and legendary actor-comedian Dolphy for a variety of entertainment programs to be announced soon (within the first quarter of 2012)!

TV5 officially announced also on its website, that Archuleta will "do a primetime series with homegrown Kapatid stars Jasmin Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero." I am also privy to the information that they are still looking or a 4th cast member to join the 3 mentioned above.

Archuleta, the newest Kapatid, recently turned 21 (just last December 28). He has captured the hearts of the American audiences as well as the karaoke-singing Filipino teenage population with his voice, talent & charm (he has been to Manila several times and is very good friends with now Super singer Charice; This Columnist was there when she called him on his cellphone a year or two ago while she was performing in Las Vegas).

This Columnist, representing Manila Mail Newspaper, is headed to Manila a day after Archuleta arrives and had requested an interview appointment with the singer. TV5’s Jeffrey Remigio confirmed that a red carpet welcome also awaits us (remains to be proven, though; promise, we will blog about it, in full gory details, later!).

Elk Grove’s Justin Smaby, model, with his mom Joyce, will also travel to Manila on the same flight with this Columnist this week and is dreaming a photo opportunity with all 3 – David Archuleta, Jasmin Curtis Smith & Eula Caballero.

Hey, it’s free to dream, right?

Milpitas presents “Third World Indie Film Festival” in September

I am pleased to announce that last Friday, January 6th, 2012, this Columnist had accepted the offer of the Third World Indie Film Festival (TWIFF) President & Founder, Fil-Am Businessman/Film Producer Ted Unarce, as the Festival Official Spokesperson for Asia.

According to Mr Unarce, “The TWIFF celebrates filmmakers worldwide whose topics deal with issues of the third world. The festival promotes awareness to social issues, helps gain a deeper understanding and greater respect for different cultures, and provides a platform for filmmakers to introduce their films to the broadest possible audience.

The festival was created to bring light to issues once only associated to developing nations. Issues such as: poverty, unemployment, human trafficking, war, water crisis, and many more. But with today’s global economic collapse, the gap that used to separate third world countries from developed nations have narrowed and these issues are now in the forefront of today’s news worldwide.

It could be said that the world has grown smaller as a result and smaller still with the speed of technology’s advancement. Social networking helped push different cultures through barriers. There is now a freer flow of ideas and a deeper understanding of each other, thus creating a breed of filmmakers who now tackle topics largely unknown to them before and enable the collaboration with third world filmmakers, helping promote unity rather than division, and generating a deeper respect for each other’s craft.

A new age in cinema will rise through films the audience has long waited for: an exhilarating experience of foreign cultures and worlds they have never seen, films that, perhaps, will forever change the industry and society.”

TWIFF’s Crew also include Gracie Suzara, Administrator; Iola Blyth Klaire, Director of Operations; Miggy Ternate, Director of Programming; Orly Yabes, Director of Marketing; Tito Uyenco, Event Manager; and Marketing Staff - Joyce Samson, Theresa Dwyer, Rachel Dwyer, Rosa Maurico, among others.

This early, TWIFF is gearing up for its 2012 Red Carpet Event to be held in Milpitas, CA featuring Hollywood big name stars as well as filmmakers around the world. Last year, countries that fielded entries were United States (yes, our economy is so 3rd World now!) India, Iran, Mexico, The Philippines, Thailand, Kenya, Peru, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Somali, China, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Russia, Africa, among others.

We are now accepting application for entries. For entry submissions, check out www.http://thirdworldindiefilmfest.com/

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Hindi naman ako natatakot kasi, unang-una, wala naman akong ginawang masama. Nagkataon lang na tumulong lang ako sa asawa ko at that time. At kahit naman sino, gagawin lang din naman yung nararapat for their husband. May ibang papeles na with regards to mga titles of houses...halos lahat kasi yun nakapangalan sa akin at may pirma ako doon. But these people know, alam naman nila, and God knows, that I will stand by (this)—not a dime, wala akong nagamit sa perang yun."

Translation: “I am not afraid because in the first place, I did not do anything wrong. It just so happened that I helped my husband at that time. Any wife will always support their husband. There are papers with regards to the titles of the houses…most of them have my names in it and they bear my signature. But these people know, they know, and God knows, that I will stand by (this) – I did not use even a single a dime.”
