TV5's Aga Muhlach's (of the Sunday hit show "Pinoy Explorer)) recent visit at Seafood City Milpitas(accompanied by TV5 Executive Jeffrey Remigio) increased shopper's foot traffic to a record-breaking 8,000 people in a single day according to unofficial reports reaching this Columnist (right).

Germaine De Leon can currently be seen on Showtime’s “Dexter” which is airing Sunday nights at 9PM. He had a supporting role in the comedy "Here Comes the Boom" for Sony Pictures which comes out in theaters the summer of 2012. Other projects include “Dumped” which is currently being filmed and a live stage performance in "4 Murders" opened 10/14 in North Hollywood

TV5 Bags 24 Awards at 20th

In recognition of TV5’s quality programming and commendable broadcast standards, the Kapatid Network and its subsidiaries bagged 24 awards and nominations at the 20th Golden Dove Awards by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) held last Tuesday (October 26) at Aliw Theater, Manila.

The longest-running children’s program Batibot won the Best Children’s Program—the newest addition to the program’s long list of recognitions here and abroad. Meanwhile, for three years in a row already, KBP hailed Talentadong Pinoy as the Best Variety Program. Roderick Paulate also bagged the Best Actor for Drama Program trophy for Star Confessions.

On the news and information front, DOKYU5’s initial offering “Bayani: Isang Imbestigasyon sa Pagkatao at Pakikibaka ni Dr. Rizal,” which commemorates the sesquicentennial or 150 years of Jose Rizal, won as Best Documentary. NEWS5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes earned the Best Public Affairs Host trophy for the investigative program Journo, which was also nominated as Best Public Affairs Program in Metro Manila.

Medical service program Alagang Kapatid and host Cheryl Cosim won Best Public Service Program and Best Public Service Program Host, respectively. Currently hosted by 2009 CNN Hero Efren Peñaflorida, Aksyon TV Channel 41’s Ako Mismo clinched the Best Magazine Program. Moreover, Radyo5 92.3 NEWS FM’s Chink Positive hosted by Chinkee Tan with Cristina Lazo got the Best Special Program trophy.

Meanwhile, TV5 was nominated in the Best Television Station-Metro Manila category. The network’s combined Rizal’s sesquicentennial and Independence Day plug was nominated in the Best TV Public Service Announcement category. The Kapatid Network also clinched the following nominations: Wow Maliand LokoMoko (Best Comedy Program), Babaeng Hampaslupa (Best Drama Program), and Mr Eddie Garcia and Ms Susan Roces for Best Actor and Best Actress for Drama Program for Babaeng Hampaslupa, respectively.

The first AM station in the FM band was also nominated in the Best FM Radio Station category, while its programs Oplan Asenso (anchored by Gerard dela Peña and Michelle Orosa-Ople) and Love Idols (hosted by Maverick Relova and Ariel Villasanta) were nominated in the Best Special Program and Best Radio Comedy Program categories, respectively. Sports block AKTV’s Astig was also nominated as the Best Sports Program.

The following TV5 provincial affiliates were also nominated: TV5 Naga - PBN Broadcasting Network (Best TV Station - Provincial), DWGV Pampanga – FM 99.1 MediaScape, Inc. (Best FM Radio Station - Provincial) and Aksyon Central Luzon - DWGV-AM Mediascape Inc. (Best Public Affairs Program – Provincial).

TV 5, through its international arm, Pilipinas Global Network Limited, is now available in the Middle East, Europe, North Africa and Guam. It offers 2 channels, Kapatid TV5 featuring general entertainment programs, and Aksyon TV International , featuring news and sports.

Good news for Fil-Ams…TV5 is looking to expand in the United States before 2011 ends.

Remember Carina Afable?

She was the first Filipino Entertainer who made three special appearances in the Barney Miller Show in the early 80’s. Her feat included doing a Weinerschnitzel TV commercial with Reggie Jackson.

Carina Afable’s entertainment career began in the Philippines as a child Radio and TV Star and had a record span of 4 decades. When Sesame Street was just a concept, she was hosting the “Kiddieland” a daily children’s show. Her musical variety shows “The Carina Show” and “May I Sing to You” was succeeded by her six year “Stop, Look and Listen” noontime musical variety.

In the mid 70’s, Carina went on an international singing stint, performing in the grand ballroom of the finest hotels in Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, Indonesia and Hongkong. Her successful show at the Reef Hotel in Guam paved her way to the capital with other successful Filipino singers, made it big in the international scene.

In the 80’s and 90’s, Carina gave sold out concerts all over the continental USA, Europe and key Canadian cities. Her performance at the Main Showroom of the Ceasar’s Palace in Atlantic City together with her Colleagues Norma Ledesma, Linda Magno and the Reycards played to SRO capacity.

Carina Afable, a truly gifted, witty and affable musical genius has been serving her purpose in the entertainment world. The Los Angeles-based warbler, using the full expense of her talents developed in her involvement in the various media of entertainment, has also appeared in leading roles in approximately five Filipino movies.

Carina Afable will be featured together with Eddie Mesa (the Undisputed Elvis Presley of the Philippines), The Sailor Boys and The Latitutde Band in REWIND CONCERT & DANCE on Friday, November 18, 2011 starting at 8:30PM at the Janet Pomeroy Center located at 207 Skyline Blvd in San Francisco, CA 94127.

He has been working as a comedian in the US for almost 3years now. He used to perform in the Philippines' top comedy bars like Manila's Punchline, Laffline, Metrobar and the 22nd Street Bar.
