Gerald & Kim’s ‘Till My Heartaches End’ to screen in San Francisco starting November 5th

TO-BE-SEEN IN THE CITY

Fans of the Philippines’ hottest love team Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, known in showbiz as “Kimerald”, came in droves at the recent premiere of their latest film, Till My Heartaches End, filling up three floors of a huge mall in Manila where the film was screened.

The good news for Kimerald fans in the U.S. – thousands of whom saw the screen duo live at One Kapamilya Go sa California’s Great America last September – is that ABS-CBN International’s Starry Starry Store is screening the love team’s new film in the following U.S. cities starting November 5: San Francisco, Los Angeles-Cerritos, San Diego, Las Vegas, Seattle, new York, New Jersey and Honolulu.

So much talk has surrounded Kim and Gerald following the rumored demise of their off-camera relationship. The tension that gripped the two and their fans was so intense that Kim and Gerald broke into tears at the Manila press conference for their film last October 12, while pleading for understanding and respect for their personal lives.

Even as this controversy rages on, many are wondering if the plot of Till My Heartaches End hews closely to real goings-on in the lives of the widely popular on-screen duo who both started their TV and movie careers in the first teen edition of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother.

Paolo “Powie” Barredo (Gerald), a struggling barista, is out to prove to the world that he is not just a son out of wedlock, but that he can succeed in life independently. Though he started out roughly, he soon picks up pace by changing careers and climbs the ladder of success.

Agnes Garcia (Kim) has always longed for the time when her family will finally be complete again. At the young age of 6, her parents left the country to work abroad – her mother is a medical technician in the U.S, while her father works as an engineer in Riyadh. Despite the distance, Agnes holds tight to the hope that she will reunite with her parents once again when she passes the nursing exam and applies to work in America.

The paths of Powie and Agnes cross at a café where the former works. They quickly hit it off, with Agnes becoming Powie’s biggest cheerleader, rallying behind him through thick and thin. But when Powie finally hits paydirt as a real estate agent, things begin to change. And as Agnes tries to hold on to the relationship, the more she drives Powie away as the guy begins to see that there is more to conquer in life… perhaps including another woman, Lea (played by Desiree del Valle).

Is there still hope for Powie and Agnes or is it time to let go and grow as individuals separately?

Written and directed by the acclaimed, multi-awarded screenwriter and director Jose Javier Reyes, as usual, deftly tackles relationship woes, especially one torn apart by personal differences and too many expectations. Aside from eliciting the most mature performances to date from Kim and Gerald, Direk Joey got topnotch acting from the supporting cast led by Mark Gil, Matet de Leon, Desiree Del Valle, Guji Lorenzana, Angel Jacob, with the special participation of Boots Anson-Roa. The film also introduces Martin Del Rosario, Enrique Gil, Paco Benin and Tibo Jumalon.

“I won’t be exaggerating if I say that Till My Heartaches End is the most eagerly anticipated film among Filipino moviegoers this year and I’m glad we’re finally bringing it to the U.S. for thousands of waiting Kimerald fans,” said Kerwin Du, ABS-CBN International’s head of theatricals. “We can’t promise anything about what will happen to this much beloved duo onscreen, but we can guarantee everyone that this is their best movie to date. It’s a thoroughly watchable film focusing on the complexities of relationships that all of us could learn from.”

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I miss my job.” by Manny Pacquiao referring to his Sarangani Congressional job (and not as the World Boxing Champion) to his trainer Freddie Roach as shown on HBO Sports Channel’s 24/7 coverage of the November 13 pre-fight preparations by both fighters and their respective camps. Roach is alarmed and continuously expressed dissatisfaction on this recent Pacquiao training; blaming Pacquiao’s ‘other’ activities aside from being a Congressman – basketball, celebrity photo ops, autograph signings, social event appearances, etc.
