@ LA VOICE SINGING CONTEST

SEEN IN THE CITY:

LOS ANGELES – Mika Gorospe, 14, of Sunnyvale, CA cinched 5th place in the recently concluded World Journal LA Voice Singing Contest, out of 124 entrants in the competition from around the world. She was also awarded the Rising Star Award for Outstanding EEI Next Gen. She was the only Filipina and the youngest, ever, to crack TOP 10 in this year’s competition.

Per the contest website, “LA Voice is a singing competition first created by World Journal Los Angeles in 2013 as a core part of World Journal Los Angeles’ Lunar New Year Festival. The annual singing contest aims to provide talents a place to perform and a channel to amplify their voices. Participation in LA Voice has by no means been limited to Mandarin speaking talents; LA Voice has attracted many young talents of diverse backgrounds.”

Speaking to ‘Scenes In The City’ right after the contest, Mika says “I am so relieved, blessed and very excited that I passed thru all the way to top 5. Imagine from original 124 online entries, it was cut to 50 (2nd video submission), then 25 to performed live in Monterey Park, CA last Sat. 1/30. Before the night ends on Sat, we were trimmed down to 10 contestants and performed last Sunday, 1/31. The Grand Finals ended up with only TOP 5 contestants. As I was the youngest, I feel so nervous at first. Majority of the contestants are already professional singers/performers while I am young and very eager to compete with them. That didn't stop me, I believe as what my parents said and Tita MJ (referring to her Manager, MJ Guzman), I delivered all my 3 performances correctly and flawlessly.”

Locally, she has performed numerous times at Pistahan SF 2015, Sangdiwa 2015, Filipino Independence Celebration in Carson, CA. Filipino Festival, Kapusong Pinoy in Anaheim, Annie “Miss Hannigan,” Julie San Jose Live in San Francisco, One Magical Night 2015, GMA Pinoy TV “Kapusong Pinoy sa LA,” Raymond Lauchengco’s Concert

When asked about her future plans, Mika says, “No show/s yet but hoping to make it to Manila and try my luck auditioning to GMA Artists Center very soon. Will see! For now, I will be focusing on my workshops such as dancing, acting and singing. I can't wait to record my next single as part of my prize as the "Rising Star Award for Outstanding EEI Next Gen" given by EEI Music to release worldwide!

Congratulations, Mika! And more power!
