SEEN IN THE CITY
Against the backdrop of changing-color dancing fountains (they always fascinate me even during my younger years) reaching as high as 5 stories high, the new Miss Philippines Earth, Miss Kris Psyche Resus 22-year old, 5’6” lass from the Municipality of Infanta, Quezon, was crowned last Saturday night, April 24th at the Manila Ocean Park in Manila. This pageant year’s theme is water conservation and preservation, hence, the finals night’s venue, question and answer portion and other logistics mainly zero-in on water. Her winning eloquently-delivered answer involves her thought-provoking idea of a volunteer system every Friday and Saturday cleaning up the Pasig River via feed-the-hungry residents, developing self-responsibility in them in maintaining its cleanliness. She hasn’t thought of a slogan yet to that gargantuan task, but if she wins, she might. And she did.
Carousel Productions, the franchise-holder of Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth pageants did an excellent creative task of even thinking of erecting a huge stage, complete with steep multi-level stairs inside the what-appears-to-be the Dolphins’ external water playground. Viewed against a total darkness backdrop, the stage and the dancing waters as the laser lights hit them, is a magnificent sight to behold on TV, much more on a beauty pageant telecast (I have never seen it done before) .
In my book, Miss Infanta (reportedly, she was wearing a borrowed gown from Miss Mecauayan who did not make it to Top 10 - that’s reuse, reduce and recycle put to good use..hehehe..) gave the best and most confident answer to her random question, although in my book, she is not the prettiest of the batch (she’s not even that tall by international pageant standards) because she spoke from the heart (unlike the others in the Top 10 mostly, who seemed to speak zoned from their pre-memorized pieces even if they don’t actually hit the question bulls eye; nervousness, perhaps?). Taking everything into consideration though, in my opinion, she is the worthiest of the title, among the chosen Top 10 (some of the losing candidates’ tongues are apparently still wagging).
The following are Kris’s runners-up and special award winners:
· Miss Philippines-Water: Emerie Dale Cunanan – Pandan, Antique
· Miss Philippines-Fire: Gwennaelle Ruias – Fil. Community of France
· Miss Philippines-Air: Rene Rosario McHugh – Fil. Community of USA East Coast
· Miss Philippines-Eco-Tourism: Angela Fernando – Mun. of Lubao, Pampanga
· Best in Talent: Aura Donna Garon, Tarlac
· Gandang Ricky Reyes award: Christine Hermoso, Meycauayan
· Miss Golden Sunset: Nadine Karla de Roxas, Tagaytay City
· Best in Swimsuit: Kris Psyche Resus, Infanta
· The Face of New Placenta: Gwenaelle Ruais, Fil-Community of France
· Miss Perwoll: Sian Elizabeth Maynard, Cebu City
· Best in Long Gown: Emerie Dale Cunanan, Pandan, Antique
· Best in Cultural Costume: Angela D. Fernando, Lubao, Pampanga
· Miss Philippines Photogenic 2010: Angela Lauren Fernando, Lubao, Pampanga
As the grand winner, Kris will be representing the country in the forthcoming event of the Miss Earth 2010 beauty pageant in Nha Trang , Vietnam this November 2010.

Sining Kumintang of Batangas Performs in San Jose

SKB tours the US every other year in June to commemorate the Philippine Independence Day, June 12, 1898. This year will be its seventh US tour that will cover Chicago , San Diego , Los Angeles , and the San Francisco Bay Area.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I choose night because I can think of all the lovely things that happened in the day and I could look forward to a nice day in the morning." – Union City ’s Melissa Sokukawa, 19, Miss Phillipines Earth (USA) West Coast’s reply to her Q&A “which one do you prefer, night or day and why?” Reportedly, Ms. Ping Valencia, Overall Project Coordinator of Miss Philippines Earth Beauty Pageant and one of several judges in the Top 10 selection wanted her to win (reports have it that she gave Melissa the highest score in her judge sheet). This was relayed to her by one of the staff who approached her in the dressing room after she got eliminated.
