CURRENT Leawood Students

Parents…There is a new enrollment process in Jeffco Schools.  This allows the school to start planning for classroom allocations and teacher placements for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.  This will be a two part process. The first step to this process is EnrollJeffco (Jan 22 – Feb 8).  All students will use EnrollJeffco for the upcoming school year to indicate where they will be attending school in August. Current students will need to enroll to let us know you are returning to Leawood, or changing schools. The second step to this process is Jeffco Connect. In July/August, you will still need to register your student(s) through Jeffco Connect, making sure your contact information is updated, pay fees, and sign off on agreements (Code of Conduct, Media Releases, and other OPT out agreements with your digital signature).  You will also be able to apply to a different school of your choice if you choose to do so.

You can complete this process January 22nd – February 8th

· Make sure your Jeffco Connect contact information is up to date for your current student(s)

· Complete the EnrollJeffco process

· In July/August, you will register your student for the upcoming school year, just like you have in previous years.

Current 5th 6th Grade Students Moving on to Ken Caryl for 2019-2020

If your student is currently “choice enrolled” at Leawood Elementary, and based on your current residency status, your student will be assigned to go to their area home middle school.  If your student is planning on attending Ken Caryl Middle School next fall for the 2019-2020 school year, you will need to choice enroll them through EnrollJeffco.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

We would like to thank all of our staff, students, families and community members who contributed to our Leawood Giving Tree. We appreciate your kindness and know that you brightened the lives of many families over the holiday. We truly couldn’t do this without all of your support. Also, a big “Hooray” to our Leawood Counselor, Mrs. Magri, for organizing and coordinating this project.

Attendance

Just a reminder regarding absences: If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the attendance line at 303-982-7813. You will also need to give a reason as to why your student is going to be out or late. If no reason is given, your student will be marked unexcused. If you are picking a child up early, we will call them down after you arrive to sign them out. Unfortunately, we cannot call them down in advance. Thank you.

Protocol at Start of the Day

During our soft start daily, our teachers are busy assisting students or working on plans for the day, and they sometimes are not available.  We ask that you do not just drop in on your student’s teacher.  Please email or call them ahead of time to schedule an appointment.

Also, just a reminder regarding the morning when you are dropping off your children; We ask that parents wait outside with their student(s) and have them enter the building from the outside by their grade level assigned doors.  The only grade level that should be coming through the front doors of the school is first grade, and students going to breakfast.

Please do not walk your students to their classrooms inside of the school.  The security of the school is our main priority and we cannot have visitors roaming the halls without having them sign in at the office and wearing a visitor badge.

We appreciate your help with this.

From the Financial Office

Please don't forget to go login to Jeffco Connect and verify that all of your student's fees have been paid. Fees that start with "OPT" are Optional fees for optional activities such as Gymnastics. Keep in mind that all of our field trips are again paid online this year.  Students with outstanding fees at the end of the school year will not receive their report cards.   We will be adding the fees to your student as the date of the field trip approaches. While you are in Jeffco Connect, please verify your personal information and make sure we have updated phone numbers and email addresses. In addition, please be sure to add additional emergency contacts other than just parents listed just in case we are unable to reach a guardian. If you need assistance with fees, feel free to contact Mrs. Russell at 303-982-7860 ext. #5

From the Health Room:

If a child becomes sick at school the parent will be called. It is expected that the parent, or another designated adult, will pick up the child within the hour. We recommend that a child with a fever should return to school when they have been FREE of the fever (without medication) for a 24-hour period and recovered from their symptoms. Same rule applies to children that have the stomach bug.  We ask that all parents follow the “Golden Rule of Health”. Please remember that a child, who is too sick to take part in outside activities, would be more comfortable at home. For the protection of your child and his/her schoolmates, it is advised that children be kept at home if the following symptoms are present:

1. Skin Rash or sores 2. Stomachache or nausea  3. Vomiting  4. Flushed face  5. Inflamed eyes  6. Chills symptoms.  7. Diarrhea 8. Ear ache 9. Coughing 10. Fever of 100˚ or more 11. Heavy nasal discharge

With the weather slowly changing we would like to remind everyone that the Health room does not provide any type of Chap Stick/Vaseline. Your student is allowed to keep Chap Stick in their back pack/classroom. We do not provide any type of lotion as well. The best way to stay healthy for the upcoming sick season is to wash hands thoroughly.  Also remember as we’ve stated in previous newsletters, if you want your student to have any type of over the counter or prescription medicine, you must have your doctor fill out the appropriate medical forms.  We have them on our website or they are also located in our parent information rack outside the front office.

 Stay Healthy,

Ms. Hake
