Ukraina 2022

"The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born; now is the time of monsters."
Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937)

"For the West, the demonization of Vladimir Putin is not a policy; it is an alibi for the absence of one. Putin is a serious strategist – on the premises of Russian history. Understanding US values and psychology are not his strong suits. Nor has understanding Russian history and psychology been a strong point among US policymakers.’"
Henry Kissinger

“The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”
Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937)

“Is it better to work out consciously and critically one's own conception of the world and thus, in connection with the labours of one's own brain, choose one's sphere of activity, take an active part in the creation of the history of the world, be one's own guide, refusing to accept passively and supinely from outside the moulding of one' own personality?”
Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937)

“There are two things which a democratic people will always find very difficult - to begin a war and to end it.”
Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1859)

"I saw in the whole Christian world a license of fighting at which even barbarous nations might blush. Wars were begun on trifling pretexts or none at all, and carried on without any reference of law, Divine or human".
Hugo Grotius (1583-1645)

“Peace is an armistice in a war that is continuously going on.”
Thucydides (460-400BC)

"A small-state world would not only solve the problems of social brutality and war; it would solve the problems of oppression and tyranny. It would solve all problems arising from power."
Leopold Kohr (1909-1994)

"With the exception of certain rodents, no other vertebrate except Homo sapiens habitually destroys members of his own species."
Anthony Storr (1920-2001)

"If everyone who had a gun just shot themselves, there wouldn't be a problem."
George Harrison (1943-2001)

"When I came back to the United States, I decided that if you could use propaganda for war, you could certainly use it for peace. And "propaganda" got to be a bad word because of the Germans using it, so what I did was to try and find some other words so we found the word "councelor of public relations"."
Edward Bernays (1891-1995)

“Whether rightly or wrongly, we are the only country in the world that believes it won a war by bombing—specifically by bombing cities with weapons of mass destruction, firebombs, and atomic bombs—and believes that it was fully justified in doing so. It is a dangerous state of mind.”
Daniel Ellsberg

"The corporations that profit from permanent war need us to be afraid. Fear stops us from objecting to government spending on a bloated military. Fear means we will not ask unpleasant questions of those in power. Fear permits the government to operate in secret. Fear means we are willing to give up our rights and liberties for promises of security. The imposition of fear ensures that the corporations that wrecked the country cannot be challenged. Fear keeps us penned in like livestock."
Chris Hedges

"NATO exists to deal with the problems created by its existence."
Noam Chomsky

“Some of us, perhaps all of us, believe that it is legitimate to kill enemy soldiers in a war, as if war were a special circumstance that shrinks the sizes of enemy souls.”
Douglas R. Hofstadter

"The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it."
— George Orwell (1903-1950)

“Armaments, universal debt, and planned obsolescence—those are the three pillars of Western prosperity. If war, waste, and moneylenders were abolished, you'd collapse. And while you people are overconsuming the rest of the world sinks more and more deeply into chronic disaster.”
Aldous Huxley (1894-1963)

“God created war so that Americans would learn geography.”
Mark Twain (1835–1910)

“Listen up - there's no war that will end all wars.”
Haruki Murakami

"I think that NATO is itself a war criminal."
Harold Pinter (1930-2008)

"O peace! how many wars were waged in thy name."
Alexander Pope (1688-1744)

“It doesn't make a damned bit of difference who wins the war to someone who's dead.”
Joseph Heller (1923-1999)

“Since mankind's dawn, a handful of oppressors have accepted the responsibility over our lives that we should have accepted for ourselves. By doing so, they took our power. By doing nothing, we gave it away. We've seen where their way leads, through camps and wars, towards the slaughterhouse.”
Alan Moore

"If the first casualty of war is innocence, then perhaps with each bullet fired, bomb detonated, leader overthrown, wall built, economy destroyed and family member killed, we are not creating goodwill and harmony, but rather another child who believes violence is the only means to bring about change in the world."
Michael Franti

"In times of war and not before,
God and the soldier we adore.

But in times of peace and all things righted,
God is forgotten and the soldier slighted."

Arthur Koestler (1905-1983)

"Writers can't write as fast as governments make wars; because to write demands thinking."
Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956)

“Nations have recently been led to borrow billions for war; no nation has ever borrowed largely for education. Probably, no nation is rich enough to pay for both war and civilization. We must make our choice; we cannot have both.”

“Only the dead have seen the end of war.”
George Santayana (1863-1952)

"We had 10 years after the Cold War to build a new world order and yet we squandered them. The United States cannot tolerate anyone acting independently. Every US president has to have a war."
Mikhail Gorbachev

“But what are a hundred million deaths? When one has served in a war, one hardly knows what a dead man is, after a while. And since a dead man has no substance unless one has actually seen him dead, a hundred million corpses broadcast through history are no more than a puff of smoke in the imagination.”
Albert Camus (1913-1960)
