Flinkhetens forbannelse
(eller Byråkratiets selvforsterkende dumskap)
I Norge (og resten av den vestige verden) er oppvekst og utdanning styrt av konformitet og karakterer.
De mest lojale og konforme blir kalt flinke; de slipper inn på høyere utdanning, får jobb, og blir forfremmet.
Alle byråkratier (også profesjonsbyråkratier) rekrutterer de "flinkeste" innen sitt snevre fagfelt, og slik blir de befolket av konforme imitatorer som blindt følger ethvert direktiv og enhver ordre uten å stille spørsmål…
De fleste er tilbøyelige til å søke trygghet, og slik gir konformitet trygghet i form av gruppetilhørighet…
De flinke avskyr annerledestenkere, og bekjemper forandring utover fasadepussing
Tryggheten kan være reell så lenge tilstanden er stabil og problemer kan løses med kjente metoder
Dramatiske forandringer i omgivelsene kan gi opphav til nye typer av store, komplekse problemer, og da er konformiteten livsfarlig… Alle annerledestenkere er eliminert, og innlærte forskrifter og prosedyrer er til ingen nytte…‽
Ifølge Peter-prinsippet rykker man oppover i hierarkiet ("forfremmes") inntil man når sitt inkompetansenivå, dvs. desto fler og større hierarkier, jo større andel inkompetente
