I have been sewing since the seventh grade, when I asked to take sewing class as the first boy. (The next year a number of girls wanted to take wood shop. I think I may have disrupted something there!)
In 1970 we bought a treadle sewing machine for $5 at a Vermont town auction and I made a Dior pattern pants-suit with silk top stitching.
Since 1984 I have made a number of religious vestments (most as gifts to new clergy), a couple of wedding dresses, clothing for nieces and nephews, and embroidered Christmas stockings for my extended family.
I now have a Kenmore zig-zag machine.
