Cold and wet today. Reminds me of the first weeks of this project in April. We found that a mixture of 3 parts Pewter Gray plus 1 part Charcoal gives the grout color we like for the slate tile on the front porch. But the rain encouraged us to work indoors and postpone grouting the porch until later.
So we started to lay the slate tile in the mud room plus an arc just inside the front door. We set up the tile saw on the porch, in the cold but out of the rain. And with the door open to pass tiles in and out, it is not at all warm indoors, either. We brought all the rest of the slate tile in to the living room and laid them on the floor so we could select the best ones to go just inside the door and the worst ones to go under the closet in the mud room. Lalo cut the tiles into a curve where they will join the cork flooring near the front door. All this will let us grout the indoor and outdoor slate at the same time. The electricians came to install the lights in the bathroom plus the two lights that I was late in ordering. The doorbell works now, too, and the cover plates are on the outlets and switches. Eric installed the communications connectors. However, the junction boxes for the lights beside the medicine cabinet are too big: they should have been standard single-outlet boxes instead of the octagon boxes normally installed for light fixture — the box shows behind the fixture. This probably means a bit of remodeling of the bathroom.Jake finished the frames around the bifold doors and I primed some casing for those doors. I’m surprised at how fast the primer dried in this cold, wet weather, when it was 43° at what is normally the warmest part of the day.
