The crew finished laying the slate tile on the entry porch floor today. I think it looks really nice, and the color of the slate goes well with the color of the wood stain and the stucco. The slate has hints of orange and gold among the gray. The staining crew came today and prepared all the interior wood for staining. Jacques and Sybille (and I) also decided on the stain color for the front door. It will be the same color as the interior wood stain — after trying three or four other colors on wood samples. However, because the outside of the front door is rough-sawn the wood soaks up the stain much more readily than the smooth interior wood. So Jacques will dilute the stain 50% on the outside of the front door and the surrounding trim.
Eli, Jesus, and Uli dug postholes for the 4x8 posts that will support the trellis that shades the patio doors. I put wood preservative on the lower three feet of post, and will probably soak them again with preservative tomorrow.I installed the closet system into the laundry area and above the utility sink. I also installed what I bought into the bedroom closet. I only got a few parts, largely to see how well it installs, but also to familiarize myself with the system and learn what other parts to buy. Both laundry and closet now have electric lights, which is a pleasure.
This evening I went to dinner and dancing with seven other people from our community. Dinner was tasty, the country music was good, and it was fun to try to dance again after 50 years. Old Martina’s Hall has been very well restored and has modern rugs (for sale) hanging everywhere. Some of the rugs are gorgeous.
