The front door was installed today - just in time for the plasterers to put the first coat of stucco around it. We also got the entry lintel (the carved one) put in above the door. (The carving is hard to see in the photo at left. It is meant to be subtle.) Since hanging doors is my nemesis, I had to find something else to do. So I picked up the drywall mud, tape, and bullnose corner bead for next week. Over the weekend — in addition to keeping the fresh cement plaster moist — I hope to mud over the screws that hold the drywall. I went through this afternoon and checked to see if any screw heads are exposed (only one was, so far), and trim down excess caulking around the electric junction boxes. It will be a pain to work on the walls because we have stuff (mostly off-cut pieces of drywall) leaning against nearly every wall.
The plasterers got about 2/3 of the house covered with the second coat of plaster, the one that includes the fiberglass mat to prevent cracks. In the photo at right the worker is just starting to plaster the left side of the window. Note that the lintel and the window have been carefully masked.
