Today was cool in the morning and quite windy, cloudy, and a few snowflakes in the afternoon. That is my excuse for not getting much done.
I did enlarge a few of the holes that I had dug for shrubs and I dug two more for Serviceberry plants. I also ordered the bare root plants — two lots of four each. I will share the extras with my neighbors.
I moved a couple more pieces of sandstone into place to use as stepping stones. I am moving large, heavy pieces now, so tilt them onto a hand truck, move them into place on the hand truck, the tilt them into place.Of course that is not the end of the story. The flat stones do not often fit smoothly onto the uneven ground. So I fetched more crusher fines (gravel) from the abandoned part of our footpath, flipped the stones out of the way, leveled the ground, add a layer of crusher fines, then flip the stone back into place and wiggle it around to set it into the gravel. I was doing this when the snowflakes drove me into the house.
I also moved my lawn furniture onto the south patio. In the left of the photo you can also see the large bell that hangs near my back door. We carried a similar, but larger, bell to Nicaragua about 25 years ago for the chapel at La Garnacha, Estelí.Writing of (the expression is ‘speaking of’, but I”m not speaking) moving furniture, a friend came by this morning to discuss the use of our community barn. I mentioned to her that I was not satisfied with my seating arrangement and she suggested a change. So I spent time moving the pink chairs (and associated artwork and bookcase) from the right wall (in the photo) to under the north window. I’m not ecstatic about this arrangement, but at least the sitters can look out the window at the south patio and garden. The window behind the pink chairs looks out onto the road — at least until the front garden is planted.
