Originally I wanted to drive from Seattle to Taos, about 15 September. But my surgery was postponed, so the trip was postponed, and my fantasy of camping down the Rockies was iced.
So I flew today. Seattle to Denver was bouncy. Fortunately I succumbed to buying a seat upgrade, so I had plenty of knee room (for $74) and a peaceful seatmate in a 737-800 that had recently been refurbished. They claimed to offer free WiFi, and, yes, I could freely connect to the WiFi router, but it was not connected to the internet.
But the weather in Denver delayed our arrival and the arrival gate was more than a 20 minute very fast walk to the departure gate. So four of us made the plane to Santa Fe, but our luggage did not. The other three were sisters, one of whom lives in Santa Fe, so they will get their bags after the 12:18 arrives from Denver tomorrow noon. I'm hoping that United will deliver my bag to Taos, as I don't need a two-hour detour to pick it up tomorrow.
While I was waiting for my bag to be traced, the line at the rental car agency diminished, so I didn't have to wait there. It was a 20 minute drive to the motel, and the instructions on the iPhone were a bit confused, as the motel was on the opposite side of the divided street, but I got here. The motel is definitely shabby - at least in the hallways. Dirty, torn, worn carpet, paint coming off the walls near the carpet, door locks crudely replaced. The first room had a bare mattress, but I moved next door, and this one seems OK. I got a free toothbrush because - for the first time in many years - I had checked my essentials in my luggage. At least the place seems very quiet.
I received a nice welcome Email from Isabella, though she will be out when I arrive tomorrow. That will give me a chance to look around unescorted.
I'm hoping to get onto the house design sooner. We'll see.
