The Comcast installer came to my house today in attempt number four to connect me to the internet. As he showed me, the taps at the street (wherein a cable to my house would be plugged) have not been installed. It appears that at least seven taps must be installed, since there is no connectivity from house to house until the taps are installed. (See photo.) So it has been four weeks to the day since the first installer came. I have rewired (actually reconnected) two of my Ethernet jacks and they test as correct. Originally only the blue and blue/white wire were connected (as seen at right - I unscrewed the black cable for convenience). They were also untwisted, which is OK for voice but not for Ethernet. The RJ-45 jack is clearly labeled with all four colors, so I see little excuse for not completing the wiring the first time. The installer came into the garage to make certain that I had wired the house correctly, and I passed that test, at least. He wanted to ensure that the wires all radiated from the garage, rather than looped from one room to another. He was also interested in the way I heat the house.
I selected window shades today. I’m a bit (no, completely) shocked at the price. Just under $1,000 for two windows. I may settle for only the one window that immediately requires some privacy, leaving the other until the neighbor builds.
