Windows
I went to choose insect screens and ended up buying the windows (and French doors).
Here are the things I remember having to choose:
My interior designer (Sybille) came along and helped. She also brought the sample of cork floor tile, slate tile sample, countertop sample, and a possibility for backsplash accent. Of course my selections had to go with these.
While I was there I signed the order and wrote a check for the deposit of $6,400.
Trusses
I had suggested that, rather than Eli building crickets (slopes in the roof so that all parts drain - even behind walls) the trusses be sloped in both directions. Originally the roof was designed to slope east and west towards a drain in the center of the roof. But that means the water can puddle along the north and south edges, unless we built crickets.
I wrote to the truss maker and suggested that each parallel truss be 1/2” higher as they went outward (at 2’ intervals) northward and southward from the drain. The owner’s wife tried, but didn’t quite understand. She mostly understood, but not completely.
So last night the owner himself laid out the trusses and got it completely on the first try. So our trusses were ordered three days late, which put us five days late on the delivery schedule. But we won’t have to build crickets and the roof should be shaped better as a result.
