At the suggestion of an old school friend I filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about my treatment from Comcast (who provides Internet service over TV cable). This prompted an Email from the Executive Customer Relations person at Comcast West Division. He looked into my record and explored a little, letting me know that construction on the cable in our street would be “done in the next couple of months”, and that “when a more firm deadline is in place” they would let me know.
I also received a callback from the engineer at CenturyLink (the regional phone company, who provides Internet service over DSL phone lines) that their engineering records were not accurate and would be updated. When that is done, then their sales system would allow them to order a connection to my house.
Meanwhile the electrician needs to wire up the Ethernet jacks correctly. He seems to have taken a winter vacation, which is common among construction and landscape people in Taos, as the temperature got down to -9° F last week. (Even so, construction continues on two other houses in our subdivision. We also had two days of pretty good snow (4-6" each day).
