My house got its final exterior color today. The plasterers were finished by noon and they removed the scaffold. We all had lunch together — I bought the burgers. I was warned to order the burgers early, and it took them nearly 20 minutes to make lunch for all 11 of us. By the time I left with two big bags of food there were several patient customers behind me and one woman who had left after waiting about 10 minutes. We also got two inside doors installed. Yesterday I reminded Eli that I had received the doors a couple of weeks ago. Getting the doors in will enable us to finish the walls around the doors and so be ready to paint.
Speaking of paint, late this afternoon I met with the interior designer to select the paint colors. We picked them, but final decision awaits painting sample boards of each color so we can make sure the color is right (not possible with a 1” square swatch).
Most of the day I was sanding the dried joint compound on the drywall. By the end of the day my clothes, hair, and skin were pretty saturated with limestone dust (the primary constituent of wallboard mud).
So when the designer reminded me that I had choir practice this evening (after a month hiatus) I panicked, because I had only 15 minutes to drive home, change, and drive to church. No, I couldn’t even wash. But it was great to be singing again.
This other picture is a roof scupper. The roofing material (EPDM) has been painted with white semi-gloss exterior acrylic paint. It has held up well, except where special flashing rubber was used at the scupper, where the paint has peeled. The coatings expert at the roofing company says I need to clean the flashing specially. We did not clean the EPDM rubber at all, except to wash with cold water.>>> Next <<<
