Yesterday we ran out of mortar for the glass tile that lines the shower walls. The vendor said we would have some this morning, so I went to Dan’s Carpet to pick it up. When Jeremiah went to his store room he discovered that Albuquerque had sent the wrong color. Not only that, but they said we would be unhappy if we used the gray instead of white. The correct color mortar is to arrive early tomorrow.
So we shifted to laying the slate tile on the entry porch floor. Since the slates are of differing thickness, we must use compensating thickness of mortar to make the top surface even. No difficult cuts yet (except around the post) but we lay slate in the mud room and just inside the front door, where there will be quarter-circular segment of slate in an otherwise cork floor. Getting the thickness right here will be a challenge!I also verified that the picture molding should be about 1 1/2” down from the ceiling. In Seattle is it only about 1/4” down, but Eli said that looks too much like badly installed cove molding. He wanted to put it 4-6" down. We held up a 14’ sample while several people looked on. The interior designer agreed with me on the position. I have yet to paint it, as the rental shop did not have a paint sprayer available.
The electricians got most of the light switches and the last of the outlets installed. I haven't tested any (except the garage), but early tomorrow will be a good test. I heard from the cabinet maker, and the kitchen should arrive early next week.
I measured for the trellis plank mounting and cut and drilled the dozen spacers that separate the planks. Ah, but not all of them, because we realize that the planks are warped, so need some stabilization in the middle (they are 12’ long), so I’ll cut eight more. I also bought and cut the threaded rod (called ‘all thread’ here) that holds the lattice together. The community has a steel chop saw (thanks, Gary) so cutting them was easy. Then I had to grind the cut ends so I could get the nuts on.
