This one is out of order. I had written a post about our trip to Nicaragua, but it got lost.
Anyway, I generally like air travel to be boring: no noisy kids kicking my seat back, no boisterous drunks, no planes delayed due to mechanical failures. We got what we wanted - at least until we neared the Honduras coast (at San Pedro Sula) from the Caribbean. I was napping off my dinner when I was jarred awake by about a minute of very violent turbulence.
This was followed by an aerial light show at 39,000 feet. I took some video with my iTouch through the window and edited it down to the juicy bits. As usual, I didn't get the most spectacular lightning strikes. One was a large bolt from our altitude (12 km) to the ground, followed immediately by one from the same cloud upwards.
We arrived in Managua in the evening - probably the last plane to arrive that day. That meant that the customs officials were tired and wanted to go home. We had four large (50 pound) duffel bags plus hand luggage. I did not want them inspected, and the inspector probably did not want that either. At any rate we were across the street in our hotel in about 20 minutes.
