The garage door was installed today. George, the installer, clearly knew what he was doing and whipped right through the procedure. It probably took him longer to commute from Santa Fe than to install the door. The door opener has a plastic track rather than a metal chain, so is quieter than most. I had to remove one fluorescent ceiling fixture to make room for mounting the garage door opener. The grey color of the door is the same grey used to stain the exterior wood (like the lintel above the door), but with the wood, some of the reddish wood color shows through. Still, I think it is harmonious.
I finished priming the bath walls and ceiling. Eli is cranking away at the bath wall tile. He is about to the point where he will frame the soap niche.
I also got all three sections of steel shelving assembled, bolted together, and fastened to the wall. I started filling them with supplies that I had locked in the barn across the street, as well as buckets and cans of paint that we had scattered around the floor.
I didn’t stay to watch or work this afternoon, as there was a festival at the Taos Pueblo, so I left at 1:30 and didn’t get back until 5:30. Three hours on my feet in the autumn sun is about my limit. It seemed like half of Acoma Pueblo had sales tents there, along with a lot of other native artisans. Mostly jewelry, but a lot of pottery, too.
I was surprised at the vitality of Taos Pueblo. Most residents live in the three large, multi-story adobe apartment buildings. Very picturesque, except we are not allowed to take pictures.
