As close as we are to the town hall, police station and fire department (about ten minutes walk) we hear nothing here. Of course that partly could be because of the well insulated walls and double pane windows, or it could be in comparison with my house in Seattle, which was two blocks from the Interstate and three houses up from a main cross-town arterial that went to the University hospital.
And the stair doesn’t creak when the cat goes up and down. Actually I don’t have a stair, but the house is very solid, even in the wind.
It is also dark at night. We have no street lamps in this subdivision, and the nearest neighbors are not very near — except for the Veterans house, which does have a light on the parking area most nights. But I cannot see that light from my bedroom and it is a couple hundred yards away. The brightest thing is the moon and stars, which are clearly visible.
We do have coyotes for neighbors, and other folks hear them at night, but not I. Every few months I see them loping between the houses. Most people keep their cats in during the night. My cat choses to observe the birds from within the house, even during the day.
