My garden has been mostly in the ground for at least a year. This is an update on how well it is growing. We had very little snow this year. The most came February 22. The first blooms in 2018 were the yellow Crocus at the base of the north berm (right) which came early April, then by mid-April the Phlox, a nice touch of pink visible from my south patio (left). By now the Crocus have faded, but the Iris (which I transplanted from in front of our Common House when we divided them last Fall) have greened up. All the evergreens look good after this winter: Piñons, Junipers, and Spruce — all atop the berms. Well, except for the globe Spruce (Picea glauba) that was under a north window. Last year the Agastache grew up around it so it received no direct sunlight all year. It looks very dead now and has dropped all its needles.Atop my berms are Prunus pumilla besseyi or creeping Western sand cherry (right), which have spread nicely and are in full bloom early May. The Cistena (below) are blooming, but they will need a few more years before the shrub fills out, so they look a bit spindly. The Spriea have leafed out but not bloomed.
