Moving In

This has been a week without regular Internet. While I have a range extender installed in the mechanical room, it is a bit too far from the neighbors (who gave permission to use their connection). And all the sheet metal ductwork up there blocks the signal from parts of the house. I will have to find a better place to locate the WiFi router. (I have two, so can install them in different parts of the house. One of the routers I bought when the equipment from Comcast failed three times. The other came in to the thrift shop and I bought it for a song.) Thus I have run 1% over my limit of 300 MB from my smartphone service vendor, at a cost of an additional $20 this month.

Meanwhile Comcast finally realized that they had not finished the installation of their underground cable in our subdivision five years ago. It took them two weeks to realize that and another week to engineer the wiring and amplifiers. We’ll see how long it takes them to install this and add the drop into my house.

I have been unpacking. I can now see four walls in the bedroom (but not the study yet). Since I had boxes of pictures piled in one corner, that meant hanging pictures. It also meant unpacking ‘decor’ and ‘knick knacks’, as the packers so helpfully labeled them. I have to unpack everything (except the stuff I packed, which I inventoried in detail), then I will have to repack some of it so that I can rotate the exhibit later. So nearly every flat surface is already covered with about six big boxes remaining to unpack. One of these boxes contains the legs for my glass coffee table, so I cannot set that up until I find the legs, and it means I must find room to set out yet more ‘decor’ or ‘knick knacks’. Some of the art looks right on the wall where it is. Others I will have to move around to look best. Fortunately, with picture molding, moving pictures is fast and easy. Oh, yes, I also have textiles that hang on the walls. And I have unpacked zero of the six or so rugs that are rolled up either under my bed or standing in corners. My color consultant has ten dining chairs that she no longer uses (her husband was the extrovert, she the cook). I brought two over to see how they look. They are not quite my style, but they are comfortable. Four of us enjoyed the dinner my friends brought (before I borrowed the chairs) on two arm chairs, an office chair, and a Shaker chair, I suspect I really do need to buy four dining chairs. I’m not sure yet where I will keep them when we are not eating, however.
