Odds and Ends

The garage got all its primer paint today. It will get final paint tomorrow, then we try to get the plumber to install the air duct, water softener, water heater, and utility sink. The electrician already came by to check on progress.

The mechanical room got final paint and flooring today. I installed a grab handle by the door because the step down (or up on the way out) is about three feet. Even with a step the handle is a big help.

Eli brought is tile saw, and we set up for cutting the shower floor tiles from 6” square to 3” square. By setting a stop on the saw table that will be easy. But first we had to replace the water pump on his tile saw — also easy. That probably means we will start tiling the shower tomorrow.

The floor tiles for the bathroom are the same color as for the shower but larger. They come 6 x 24” and we want 6 x 12”, another easy cutting job, except that the saw table is not large enough to set a simple stop. We will check the size by laying out sample tiles on the bath floor. That way we can make sure we cut them to a length that does not lead to very narrow pieces around the edges.

I also bought and installed bronze house numbers. The dark bronze matches the color of the interior hardware (and doorbell button). The middle of the day seemed like a waste. I had to get a haircut, drop shirts off to be laundered (and pressed), and visit a notary. I hope this is the last of the paperwork transferring assets from Carol to me. The papers said I needed a Medallion signature guarantee. Only one person in Taos provides this $30 service because almost no one requires it any longer. I had to wait three hours after I got my signature notarized at the local bank. While waiting, I called the investment firm and asked them. They said that as long as I provided a death certificate the signature guarantee was not needed. Whew, but still a waste of time.

I stopped by the grocer on the way back and, lo, the produce shelves were empty. So I’ll have to run errands again tomorrow before the potluck supper. Then the contractor who had disconnected the natural gas to Annie's house (where I'm feeding the cats for two days) called to say I had to let him in to relight the burners.

So I did not get much work on the house today.
