At last I’m finished with installations, altho I just realized I have only a month left in Germany. I must make my travel arrangements next week in order to get flight reservations for Thanksgiving. At this point I plan to spend a week on the East Coast visiting before I come home.
The deal at Harvard won’t work. The organ is very large (100 ranks) and goes out this month. I don’t want to work in LA, so even if the firm of Abbott and Sieker offer me the Mint I won’t take it. Glenn White has offered me most of his contracts (he doesn’t have time) and says that in a month I should be netting $100 a week. That will do as a starter and it should grow relatively fast. Glenn’s pop has a well-located shop which we will probably rent or buy when the need arises.
Last night Gudrun and I went to a very good little birthday party. All the houses here have a cellar, which is dandy for washer, wine storage, and parties. I bought a small keg of special Dusseldorf bier so will throw a party soon. I must find a place first.
I filled out the Draft Board forms and sent them back immediately. I wish the War Corps boys would get off my back. One friend of mine from the Peace Corps is seriously considering emigrating to Canada. That’s a bit drastic, but I’ll fight tooth and nail against going to Vietnam. I’d rather rot in prison than get shot in the back by some guerrilla in a palm tree. How many of “our boys” have returned from active duty in Vietnam?
Our three weeks of Indian Summer, with temperatures up to 70° soon to be at an end. The leaves are falling like snow and the flowers have put out their last dying effort.
