I did put mud on the walls again today. As did Ule and Eli. Basically the garage and living room are ready to paint. The kitchen, bed, and study partly prepared. The laundry, bath, and mud room not at all. While these smaller rooms have fewer screw holes, they have just as many corners, and corners take the most time.
Meanwhile, however, more exciting stuff is brewing. Lalo and Jake applied a bonding agent (basically white glue, I think) to the stucco in anticipation of getting the color coat tomorrow. The bags of plaster mix are on a pallet in the garage. It will be really nice to have the final color and the scaffold removed. (The scaffold belongs to the plaster contractor and masks the nice lines of the house.)
I received an advertisement for appliances yesterday. It occurred to me that certain months are better for buying appliances than others. Turns out that the appliance (as well as automobile) ‘model year’ rolls over in September, so this month and next are awash with discounts as vendors reduce their inventory of ‘old’ models. Not that I can see much change.
So I shopped online for the appliances I need. I haven’t made a purchase yet, but I do have a spreadsheet of what appear to be good machines from a reputable dealer at reasonable prices (including delivery). I rely on Consumer Reports for reliability history and general recommendation. (It is nearly impossible to find the exact model that CR recommends.)
The one appliance I can’t figure out is refrigerators, but their model year does not change now, so I can’t expect big savings. There seem to be five or six refrigerator models at about the same price from the same manufacturer. This may take a visit to a showroom to observe first-hand the balance between freezer and cooler space, the arrangement of shelves, and the energy labels (which are not available online).
