Today I painted the casing that will go around the linen closet which is being built in my garage to go in the bathroom. The shelves are cut, the box is built, and the cleats are installed to support the shelves. I bought melamine iron-on edging for the fronts of the shelves, and Eli says he has an iron (I left mine in Seattle). I also painted the edge stiles of the bifold doors in the bedroom closet, using semi-gloss paint to enable easier washing off fingerprints.
Wednesday I had put up a string of lights just inside the front porch beams. I had hesitated putting nails into the outside of the beams, but decided my hesitation was folly. So today I added galvanized nails and moved the colored lights to the outside of the beam. By the time I had finished that exercise my fingers were too cold to put up the string of white lights on the inside of the beam. (I’m hoping to provide more general light under the porch roof, as the wall sconces are a bit feeble.)
I loaded about 50 pounds of packing paper into the van. A neighbor had told me that the recycling center would be open today, but, alas, my car is still full of corrugated cardboard and packing paper. I’ll try again tomorrow.
I had tried to get Internet through the local (actually regional) phone company, but they wanted land survey information rather than street address or GPS coordinates. I was able to find township and range, but not section, so gave up on them. I ordered Internet via cable. Yes, I know and you know that I am not fond of the annual go-round with Comcast over their marketing plans. But maybe by the time they up the monthly rate the local coop will have fiber optic cable available within Taos.
I also started up the water softener. I’m not sure why the plumber did not start it — he added salt. But he left the instruction book, so I followed the instructions. Took two hours to recharge, which it will do automatically henceforth. I’m not sure how hard the water is here, but I took the default of 25 grains per gallon (now there is an antique unit of measure, about 17 parts per million), which seems in the right range. I can always change that setting, which will affect how often it recharges.
Sorry. No pictures today. Scrubbing out the utility tub does not constitute a photogenic activity in my estimation.
Eight of us met in the Common House to eat leftovers from the Thanksgiving feast yesterday, which was attended by sixteen. I was surprised that my Brussels sprouts were totally eaten but a lovely (and tasty) tossed green salad was barely touched. Sadly the cook tossed it. I love salad, even if a bit wilted.
