Well, Monday we (that is, Lalo and Ulisses) fixed the two leaking windows. They had to cut and chip away the cement plaster and steel lath, remove the black waterproofing that had not been installed correctly, caulk, and replace the waterproofing. This time I think they used the newer stretchy material. We still have to caulk under the doors, but that will be relatively straight-forward.
Eli picked up the special short door (shown resting in the garage) for the mechanical room, and Ulisses installed it. That means we can plaster the south side of the mechanical room. Still have to install the exhaust louvers for the furnace (actually, Ray needs to get it to us) so we can finish the east side.I spent a couple of hours removing spilled plaster from around the base of the walls. I have one more area at the base of the wall, then the area where they mixed the plaster and lots of little messes around the property. But the plasterers return on Thursday for the ‘brown coat’, so I’ll have to start cleaning up again.
A neighbor pointed out that the upper corners of my walls are not shaped right. They were formed correctly from styrofoam, but when they were waterproofed it was easier to cut them straight than to try to form the waterproofing material around a compound curve. It will only take a bit of extra plaster to build up the correct shape again — about half inch.
Eli and I worked out details of the interior, such as what kind of wood trim, how it should be installed around the south doors, and what the bookcases should look like. They will look like niches in adobe walls (even tho constructed of drywall plasterboard).
After that I made a salad for a potluck meeting of the Taos Community Chorus board of directors. I had offered to help with their web site, which needs to be up before the first rehearsal in mid-September. I won’t be doing the work, but will try to help the volunteer who is doing it. That makes three web sites into which I’ve stuck my nose!
