Cabinet doors are finished and installed in both mud room (stained dark) and bath (painted light). We we lowered the radiant heater in the bathroom, Jake painted the patches in the wall behind the heater, and I reinstalled it today. Eli installed a tiny bit of tile to fill a gap between the linen closet and the entry door — where baseboard would be in any other room. The bathroom is ready to use.I installed Kill a Watt (picture at bottom left), which indicates 250 Watts to run the fans in the furnace and the ERV on low. So far this is continuous, but we may find a way to automatically shut off the fans at night.
Final kitchen tile was done Thursday and grout done Friday. That leaves the kitchen counters useable at last, even though the stove is in the middle of the room — lacking a sheet metal piece that would not fit in the 24” gap between cabinets. Three of us had a cooperative dinner this evening. I cooked moussaka but could not find my spices, so they must still be packed somewhere in a box not labeled ‘kitchen’. Dinner was tasty, as I borrowed nutmeg and cinnamon from one of the cooperators.
Cleaned out garage of left-over material and construction equipment. It was very dusty from all the sanding. I rearranged much of my stuff on the steel shelves so we can get the water tanks into the garage. I will need some hooks for hanging some stored items.Planned rainwater storage with the plumber, but still waiting for the ductwork for the air circulation in the garage. I built a control to turn the fan off when the garage door opens, but have not tested it yet. At least the fan is here now.
Started cleaning with cabinet tops. Eli put me in contact with a house cleaner to help. She comes on Monday.
Outdoor lighting finally is working right — I checked it after dark last evening and again this evening. I will also have to add a light to illuminate the keyhole — right now it is a dark colored object that is hard to see in the dark.
The bedroom looks like it could be used, even though the chest of drawers is buried under boxed pictures.
Eli had to drive to a nearby job site to pick up the Certificate of Occupancy, which now is taped to the inside of the coat closet. No Internet, tho I have had an order for 14 days and three appointments for installation, but the installer says (each time) that there is no power at the tap. Customer service has asked the field supervisor to call me and explain when things can be connected, twice. After another long conversation, it now appears that I am responsible for providing power at the street tap. However, the rep could not give me specifications for this power tap, so I will wait until the technician comes and ask him what he expects. Poor way to run a business, in my humble opinion.I had considered adding another arc of slate tile flooring by the south patio door entry. Asked my color consultant and builder (who has a very good eye) for their opinion. This entry gets a lot of traffic. At the very least I need to buy another Astroturf doormat: they really do collect a lot of grit and snow. The consultant reminded me that the slate inside the front door ties the front porch to the mud room. Slate would be out of place at the south patio entry, so I’ll stick with a doormat or two.
