Today Lalo and I built the two lattices over the garage and study windows. They were easier than the lattice we built last Thursday (visible in the background) because we didn’t have to erect the posts, cut the corbels, and there were only three planks per lattice instead of five. So the two only took two hours total. The kitchen installers came and fastened the base and upper cabinets in place. The vents in the floor beneath the sink require that the sides of the cabinet pedestals be opened to allow air to flow in from beneath adjoining cabinets and these cabinets will get a toe kick space register. Still the total area of kick space we can use is about 50 sq in, while the floor registers are 168 sq in. The dishwasher is adjacent to the sink but it has sheet metal all the way to the floor (rather than standing on legs) so it cannot contribute to the air flow.
Uli grouted the bathroom and shower floor.
Eli installed the lock in the front door.
Jake built the casing around the closet bifold doors. And we discovered that the rough opening for the laundry doors was too wide. It is not possible to buy a set of bifold doors that are 5’-8” wide, so we will pack them in 4” on each side. The mechanical subcontractor called me and apologized for installing the wrong furnace. He will get the model that was approved in July and I asked for the smallest size. He will also replace the ERV ducts with flexible duct (which is insulated) to reduce the noise.
Most of the day I spent on a leaf-peeper tour of the Enchanted Circle. Most of the leaves have already fallen, but there were some golden Populus tremuloides (trembling aspen).
