We did not get the porch beams up today. Well, they are up, but not permanently placed. Eli spent much of the time honing the lap joint between the two beams. The first photo shows Eli on the scaffold adjusting the fit between the two beams. To the left you can see Oraldo and Ulisses working on the lintel upon the sawhorses. But we did get two windows installed — the two that will be under the porch. The second photo shows Orlando fitting the window, with the lintel leaning against the wall and the main porch beam over his head.
The next photo shows the lintel in place temporarily for fitting. It was subsequently removed to seal around the window and under the lintel and to get the level just right.Today the electricians installed junction boxes and ran wire in the ceiling. The photo shows Eric on the ladder in the middle of the living room. He and Gus worked all day on site.Just before noon, Gabriel fell off a ladder that was not on firm ground. His left wrist was extremely painful and swollen. I took him to his wife’s workplace — a chiropractic office — as he doesn’t have a regular doctor or insurance. Monday he went home sick at the end of the day, so his head may not have been working clearly today.
Not to be forgotten is our perpetual battle with weeds. The last photo shows Isabella driving the Ford tractor with mower. She is mowing the Sunset Park, which adjoins Valverde Commons and to which we contributed five acres. In that photo (you may have to double-click it to see the detail) you can also see one of the many dog walkers that visits daily. Between the park and the houses in the background is an irrigated pasture. The cows were elsewhere this morning.
