Wood Trim

The baseboards, picture molding, and casing around the bifold doors are all special-order from a mill in Albuquerque. There was a mis-communication about the casing profile, so that will have to be remade, but it was not the bulk of the order. These came this morning, and I have lightly sanded the sharp edges with fine sandpaper just to removed splinters.Next step is to remove the dust with a damp cloth, then prime these with a paint sprayer. I have found that water-based paint (most if it these days) dries rapidly here in Taos, so I will probably be able to apply two coats of latex paint to the trim, plus the primer, all in one day.

The bifold doors for the bedroom closet are louvered. That means that they will be a pain to paint unless I can spray them, too. I have already sanded them completely and dusted them with a dry paintbrush, so they are ready to prime and paint — but a different color. Then there is the bifold door for the laundry, which might be a different color. That means I need to clean the paint sprayer at least three times.

I also stained the rough-sawn cedar boards around the garage door (outdoors, on sawhorses covered with plastic). I overslept this morning (didn’t wake until quarter ’til seven) so I didn’t get the bathroom walls painted a second coat.Today was the day for fancy glass tile cuts. Eli and Uli installed the tile around the plumbing for the sink, wall-hung toilet, shower head and shower valve. They still have two niches to tile and around the window, so the tile setting is not finished.
