The temperature was 30°F on my protected porch at 7am today. The house is still cold, but probably closer to 50° inside. Still no furnace, but tolerable for working. The thick insulation and south-facing window really help.
Here is a photo of the slate tile with the special-mix grout on the front porch. The grout has dried to match very well. On the other hand, the repainted light sconce on the porch was not successful. The gray about matched the garage door, but that gray was no what we really wanted, so I re-re-painted it back to the original dark gray. (Actually, the original original was white unglazed ceramic bisque. I sealed it with oil-based primer and painted it dark gray, then sort-of gold, then medium gray.)The painters came and sprayed the louvered bifold doors for the laundry. They will be ready to install as soon as the floor is laid. Speaking of floor, I plan to be in Seattle the first week of November, not where I can get the floor tile out of rental garage. So we moved all the cork floor tile and the plumbing fixtures to the new garage. This required some re-organization. The shelves are a big help keeping things off the floor. Eli laid out lines for the floor tile, which should go down quickly.
I cut slots for the air return under the kitchen cabinets. I had sought commercial registers for the toe kick space, but they are ugly and not big enough.
I placed posts on each side of the utilities today. The plan is to build a removable coyote fence of latillas that will hide the ugly utilities from the street. These include an electric transformer, telephone, cable, and fiber optic pylons, and two electric meters.
