Actually today was not slow for the house, only for me. Eli churned away with preparing the drywall for painting and Jake got the bathroom and shower ready for tile. I got the rest of the mesh tape and masking tape around the windows.
The plasterers finished applying the second coat (with embedded fiberglass mesh). By mid afternoon the sky was dark, and appeared to threaten rain, but the weather forecasters said no rain. They were worried that another rainstorm like yesterday would wash off their fresh plaster. Should they continue or quit for the day? I persuaded them to finish plastering. (No, it did not rain.)
I went over a little after 7am and wet down the plaster from yesterday. I also applied a little more wallboard mud. Most of what I did today was refine a little valance. Above two doors from the living room are ‘bookcases’. The are the width of the doors and about a foot high, and deep enough for books. I’ll probably use them to display art. Thus I will have a strip of LED lights up there. To prevent that light from shining in people’s eyes, there will be a valance that is simply a continuation of the wall above.
Since we had already built the ‘bookcase’ without a valance, this required a bit of removal, and we decided to try a 1 1/2” valance. This looked too big once it was built, so I removed it (about 10 screws and five long staples) and cut it down. I didn’t want to screw it back together, because the screws prevented rounding the edge to match the sides and bottom of the case. So I glued it together with Liquid Nails, which seems to have worked.
Since I had a lunch engagement I left about 11am to clean up and drive to the restaurant. On my way back I had to exchange a lithium-ion battery for my new impact driver that would not charge. I stopped by the job site. Everything was going well, including the brief discussion about the weather forecast.
Having missed by siesta, and knowing that I had an early evening meeting, I went home and took a nap.
