The kitchen cabinets arrived on Friday. The lowers are in position but not installed. The uppers are stacked in the living room. The fronts should be ready tomorrow, when the cabinetmaker returns to install them. The cabinets are made of American (Black) Walnut with beautiful grain figure.
Over the weekend I recorded the model number of the large furnace that hangs in the mechanical room. It seems to be about 5 times as big as necessary (100,000 Btu/hr), and neither the model that was specified by the heating engineer nor the model that was approved in July. I am now insisting that the originally-specified furnace be installed. There is a dealer about 40 minutes away. [The subcontractor’s excuse was that he was not an authorized dealer.] The larger furnace will be noisier (the fan is too big for the ducts) and will cycle more often (harder on the equipment and less comfort) than one that is sized correctly. Even the smallest made (36,000 Btu/hr) is larger than I need because the house is so well insulated. In the process I will insist that the ductwork leading from the ERV be internally-insulated, as the sound level in the bedroom to too loud and this will be an easy fix.
I finally got a photo that shows the color of the glass tile in my shower. I had to switch from a cell phone camera to a real pocket camera. Of course the tiles have not been grouted, so the lines are more prominent than they will be eventually.I did stain the rough-sawn Western Red Cedar scuppers and they now look like they belong to the house. Still have to figure out a color for the outdoor lighting sconces.
