Science Proves the Human Soul is Immortal

Science Proves the Human Soul is Immortal

This is interesting news; however, I believe they have their terms all wrong. I am talking of their definition of what a human soul is. The Scriptures tell us exactly what a human soul is.

https://curiosmos.com/scientists-say-the-soul-does-not-die-it-returns-to-the-universe/?fbclid=IwAR30Co588Ovb3yGRKVAy9tYhIAiq18DpNsQnXPIWW2Sf6t9Sr5ok3WVHumw

Gen. 2: 7 - And Yahuwah Elohim formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

The “breath of life” talked about here is something separate from man that was placed in him. This is the Spirit of Elohim. When we die, that spirit returns to its owner – Yahuwah. And, it will be placed back in us when we are resurrected.

The breath of life is something totally separate from the human soul. What is a human soul? It is what we became when Yahuwah imbued us with the breath of life. In other words, it is what we are, not something we possess. Therefore, the terms, human being and human soul are totally identical.

So, is there an essence that leaves our bodies when we die? Of course, there is. That essence is the spirit of Yahuwah and it returns to him. It does not simply dissipate into the universe, as this scientist maintains.

These verses pretty much sum up the general Old Testament understanding of the soul.

Pr 19:16 - He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die.

This verse is talking about he who keeps the commandments vss. he who despises them. He who keeps them, keeps his soul. He who despises them, his soul will die. Could this really be talking about the spirit of Yahuwah? Can His spirit despise itself and die? No, this is clearly talking about the human body, not the spirit of Yahuwah.

Eze 18:4 - Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sins, it shall die.

Everything that Yahuwah created belongs to Him. Therefore, he has the right to do as He pleases with us. We have been fore warned and Yahuwah’s word never fails. How can the spirit of Yahuwah sin? How can the spirit of Yahuwah die? It is simply a concept totally unsupported by scripture.

Eze 18:20 - The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Here we are again. The soul is capable of sin, and if it does sin, it will die. How can this be said of Yahuwah’s spirit? It must be talking about the human body. As for the rest of the verse, it seems to contradict two other verses;

Ex. 20:5 - You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I Yahuwah your Elohim am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Num. 14:18 - Yahuwah is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

Well there is a very easy way to avoid this consequence, and that is to not sin. And notice this only applies to those who hate Yahuwah. What if one of the descendants of the person does obey and love Yahuwah? Why that person will receive the rewarded for obedience – eternal life. It is only the guilty who will suffer.

Now let us sees if the New Testament understanding differs at all.

Mt 10:28 - And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Well, this very first verse seems to contradict what we read in the OT. I believe what Matthew was trying to convey is that the souls differs from the body in that it represents the total essence of the person (mind, body and soul) - all his passion for Yahuwah and his character in living a life of obedience to Yahuwah.

I am also sure that Matthew’s reference to hell was originally “the grave”. Christian translators exorcised much license to inject many pagan doctrines into their translations.

Mt 12:18 - Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

Well, here we have it. Yahuwah also has a soul. So, what can that mean? Again, I believe it means His total essence.

Mt 16:26 - For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

A soul cannot be bought or sold. One can be the richest man alive and still lose their soul. The soul is closely connected to our obedience to Yahuwah. If we do not believe, if we do not obey, we will lose the essence that connects us to Yahuwah. Once lost, this is something that is not easily regained.

Mt 22:37 - Yahushua said unto him, You shall love Yahuwah your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.

Why are these three things always treated separately? Are not the mind and heart part of the body? The mind guides our thoughts. The heart guides our emotions. But what exactly does the soul do? Let’s continue on and see if we can figure it out.

Mt 26:38 - Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry you here, and watch with me.

Yahushua had a soul while in His human form. Knowing the trial before Him, Yahushua’s soul “was exceedingly sorrowful”, so much so that He was in danger of dying. Again, I can only see the soul as the total essence of a person – what makes him/her tick, so to speak. Yahushua’s total being was sorrowful.

Mr 12:30 - And you shall love Yahuwah your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment

This is not a casual request; it is a commandment! In fact, it is the first and greatest commandment. If we bring ourselves under this commandment, we are by nature obedient to all. We are to love Yahuwah with every fiber of our being - our soul.

Mr 12:33 - And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

The whole purpose of the Mosaic Law is to teach us to think, speak and act as if we were already one with our Creator Elohim. They all have to do with love – Yahuwah's love for mankind, combined with mankind’s love towards Yahuwah and one another. If we do not see such an attitude of love in a person, we are not seeing Yahuwah in them either.

Lu 2:35 - (Yea, a sword shall pierce through your own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

The context of this verse is as Follows:

33 - And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him.

34 - And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35 - (Yea, a sword shall pierce through your own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

In verse 34, a man named Simeon pronounces a blessing on the child. Who was this man, Simeon?

Lu. 2:25 - And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Spirit of Yahuwah was upon him.

26 - And it was revealed unto him by the spirit of Yahuwah, that he should not see death, before he had seen Yahuwah’s Messiah.

Obviously, Simeon was a prophet. In verse 35 he declares a prophesy concerning the woman (Mary) to whom he was talking that a sword would peirce her own “soul” as well.

https://www.gotquestions.org/when-did-Mary-die.html

One tradition says that Mary died in AD 43 and another in AD 48, but we have no way of confirming either date.

Another legend says that Joseph of Arimathea, sometime after Jesus’ crucifixion, took Mary to Glastonbury in southern England. There she lived out her remaining days and was buried—along with the Holy Grail. None of these legends are corroborated by any historical evidence.

Well, it seems no one knows when or how Mary died. Yet, if she died by the sword, I am certain that much would have been recorded about the fact. Therefore, I believe it is safe to assume she died a natural and unremarkable death.

So, what did Simeon mean when he said a sword would pierce through her own soul also? He could not have been talking about a literal sword, because that never happened. He must have been talking symbolically. So, what is it that would symbolically resemble sword piercing her soul? I would say it would have been the terrible pain of losing her Son in such a horrifying and shameful manner. Every fiber of her being (her soul) was suffering excruciating phycological and physical pain. It must have indeed been like being pierced with a sword.

Lu 12:19 - And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

The following is the context of this verse:

Lu. 12:16 - And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 - And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18 - And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19 - And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 - But Elohim said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you hast provided?

21 - So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward Elohim.

Again, the only thing that seems to make sense is that the term. “soul”, is speaking of our essence, our total being. Even though it is always spoken of as separate from the body and mind, all are inclusive.

Joh 12:27 - Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Yes, Yahushua’s “soul” was troubled at the prospect He was facing. Every fiber of His being was troubled – like when someone is shaking from head to foot in fear of something.

Ac 2:27 - Because you will not leave my soul in hell (the grave), neither will you suffer your Righteous One to see corruption.

It was not just Yahushua's mind that was in the grave; nor his heart nor his body; but all three. The soul; therefore, could also mean completeness – a perfect union between man and Elohim – the essence by which a man and Yahuwah become one.

Ac 3:23 - And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

The prophet spoken of is Yahushua, which is all some believe Him to have been. Every “soul” that does not hear Yahushua (hear/believe/follow with every fiber of their being) shall be destroyed. Otherwise, we only partially hear, believe or follow. Partially hearing, believing or following will not work for the gaining of salvation. It is only total hearing, belief and following that qualifies us.

Ac 4:32 - And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

The first century assembly was of one heart and one “soul”. What does this mean? They were of the same heart and soul as the Father and the Son. They competed the wish of Yahushua when He prayed in the garden in John 17. He asked 3 times that his followers be made one with the Father as He was. Who of us can make this same boast? If not, why not? This is one thing the entire 1st century Believers had.

Rom. 2:8 - But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

9 - Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

10 - But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

11 - For there is no respect of persons with Elohim.

It would seem here that every good and every evil thought, word and action comes from within the human soul. If it came from the mind, it would say so. If it came from the heart, it would say so. And these are the typical areas one would expect to find such emotions. However, this passage reveals that they come from the soul. Therefore, the soul cannot be the body because the body itself cannot produce such emotions. Yet, neither can the soul be presented without the body. Could the soul simply be the “power” that makes it all work?

Rom. 13:1 - Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of Elohim: the powers that be are ordained of Elohim.

Could the soul be our consciousness, our awareness of the things around us and our understanding of them? There is definitely something about man that is different from all other creatures. Man has some natural Elohim-like qualities about him that the rest of the animal kingdom does not. Man is a soul. So are animals; however, it is the soul of man that has a special connection with the Father.

1Co 15:45 - And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

The last Adam became what the first Adam was supposed to become – a quickening spirit. What does the term quickening mean? It means enlivening or bring to life. Our physical life was always meant to be temporary. It is merely one segment of our total purposed existence. I like to compare our existence to caterpillars and butterflies. We are now like caterpillars and will go into the grave (cocoon) and emerge butterflies (full spirit beings). Yet, all is conditional on our relationship with the Father and the Son. That is where our soul comes in. It is the “power” of Yahuwah, which He put in us so that we could have this very special relationship with Him. Becoming a “living soul” means that we “become” that power. It is not merely something we possess; it is what we are.

1Th 5:23 - And the very Elohim of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray Elohim your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Master, Yahushua HaMashiyack.

Spirit, soul and body! Hear we have another combination. All appear to be separate from one another. Yet, for any of us to enter Yahuwah’s Kingdom, we must have all three intact.

Heb 4:12 - For the word of Elohim is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of Elohim is intended to seek out and eliminate all evil thoughts and replace them with righteous thoughts. It divides the soul and the spirit for the unrighteous and unites them in the righteous. Our soul reveals our true thoughts and intentions, and lay them bare before Yahuwah. We cannot hide the truth or pretend perfection before Yahuwah.

Heb 10:39 - But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Belief leads to repentance and eternal life. It is our belief in Yahushua that saves our soul, the essence that connects us to Yahuwah.

Jas 5:20 - Let him know, that he which converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

This is our greatest purpose – to save other sinners from eternal death. It is easy to simply hide everything we know under a bushel and never brave the anguish of trying to persuade someone to change their entire way of thinking. But imagine the anguish the 1st century Believers had in telling either the Jewish or Roman authorities they had everything wrong. That definitely took a lot of courage. How many of us have the courage to walk into the middle of a market place (or a mall) and start preaching to total non-believers, telling them how wrong they all are. Allow me to be the first to admit I’d be scared to death. I am quite I happy in my comfort zone, studying and writing from home, all by myself, with nobody to contend with. I post my articles with the hope that Yahuwah approves and that they will draw others to believe also and actively pursue all truth.

As it states here, in converting another to the truth we hide a multitude of our own sins. The sins we have to worry the most about are the ones we are unaware of. We all have them. Dedication to the study of Yahuwah’s word is what reveals these hidden sins to us. We must seek them out and drive them from our soul. This is how we perfect the spirit in us and grow into the stature of Yahushua, and ultimately, the Father.

3 John 1:2 - Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

John was addressing the Believers who lived in Gaius. He was wishing that they would prosper physically as well as they did spiritually. Yet, I feel that being in a state of lesser prosperity makes one even hungrier for the things of the spirit. Their souls prospered because of the special spiritual connection to Yahuwah. Perhaps it can be likened to a communication devise.

Rev. 16:3 - And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

Well, well, well? What do we have here? Are all the sea creatures living souls also? Certain animals have been reported to seem to have psychic connections with the spirits – seeing things that human cannot. One scriptural example is when the false prophets was confronted with a talking jack ass? We have no idea what animals think or whether or not they naturally are aware of Yahuwah’s presence. We may be very surprised in the end (when we finally do know everything) that animals were one up on us in that regard.

Conclusion

Well, it would seem that this study has presented a number of different possibilities of what a “soul” could possibly be.

1 – Man is a living soul.

2 – If we keep Yahuwah’s commandments, we get to keep our own soul (gain eternal life). If we hate His commandments, our soul will die.

3 – The soul that sins, shall die. So much for the soul being immortal.

4 – The soul is something separate from the mind heart and body. Yet, it encompasses them all.

5 – Yahuwah has a soul also, and his soul is pleased with righteous men.

6 – There is no ransom that can be paid for one’s soul.

7 – It is possible for the soul to get puffed up by the acquisition of prosperity and become corrupted.

8 – The thoughts of the heart are revealed through the soul.

9 – The Apostles were of one heart and one mind with the Father and the Son. Their souls were the means by which they were connected.

10 – The human soul is not something we possess; it is what we are – a living soul.

11 – Believing in Yahushua is what saves our souls from death.

12 – If we convert another to Yahuwah, our own sins will be hidden and ur souls saved.

13 – Every creature under the sun is a living soul.

14 - The soul could also mean completeness – a perfect union between man and Elohim – the essence by which a man and Yahuwah become one.

Now we know all that the Scriptures say concerning the human soul. It is not quite what the scientists say it is. And then, they are not that far off either. At least they are admitting that some essence leaves our bodies upon death. And, that is a rather bold admission considering the profession they are in. But let's not give them too much credit. They are still a long way off in admitting that there is an Eternal living Elohim who created every living soul.

Yahuwah Bless
