Wednesday, April 14, 2021: Happy 20th, Animal Crossing!

Today was Animal Crossing's 20th anniversary, and this morning I read about the limited edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons 7-disc soundtrack set (sadly limited edition) on Nintendo Life - similar to Breath of the Wild's limited edition soundtrack set from 2018! Sadly both are Japan-only, but still really cool - I'll be sure to watch for videos showing it off! I guess you can pre-order it from Amazon. While I'd love to have it, I think having the physical copy of the game and access to the soundtrack on YouTube is alright with me.

(May 4th update: Here's an article on Animal Crossing World - there's a piano collections book too! That's something I could potentially get. Working on a violinist.com blog post... I'm hoping to return to playing Animal Crossing soon!)

Anyways! As a musician, I had to harp on about this amazing soundtrack release. In any case, it got me to play the game a little bit on the TV this morning, though I am getting ready to end the school year and am planning on taking a bit of a gap from gaming in general, besides playing through Kaze's amazing SM64 hack Return to Yoshi's Island, and more Final Fantasy IX, with friends. By May I should get back into the game and work on my "minigame plateau" (sort of a Breath of the Wild reference I guess!) for some summer parties.

So, for starters, Diana was feeling nostalgic about island life being more like normal life. For her, that's probably true; for me, it is a bit of a virtual vacation feeling every time I return to Iyerland!

I also got yelled at by the HHA for all my DIY recipes strewn about my room. Yeah... Another thing that won't get worked out till summer, sorry guys. :)

Label was in the square today, so I came back to her with a comfy outfit I wore for the rest of my (short) play session.

Here's what Diana gave me - doesn't that picture just remind you of one of the opening shots of the E3 trailer, when we were all wondering what kind of thing it was? Sydney was also singing K.K. Calypso - maybe I should install another radio somewhere on the island. It used to be the Animal City track for our shopping district. I think no matter where it is, that's what the villagers will sing anywhere on the island. I spoke to Sydney, and she told me she was reading a handbook on reactions. :P Merengue told me the title of a book she was reading as well - I think it was "Yes, Yes To Success!".

And finally, I made a little 20th anniversary drawing on the bulletin board. It was nice to pop the Switch out of the dock to write with touch controls when I couldn't work the analog sticks. I didn't have time to visit the set I'd made for my celebration playlist or anything, but it was still nice to play a little on this special day - felt I had to!

Here's a link to my playlist and the video I just released today celebrating the series' anniversary and what it means to me. Be ready for a bit of a gap now until the next entry, but hopefully this proves it isn't for lack of interest or excitement with the game! I'm just waiting till I have some free time to dedicate to the game - more livestreams and videos to come! Still my favorite game, even when I'm off playing Mario. :) - Anyways, until then, never stop Crossing! And happy 20th, Dobutsu no Mori!
