Monday, May 17, 2021: Western Downstream River

I thought it was funny how my gold spot and one of the fossils spawned in my dirt track. One of the side effects of using a dirt or sand paving is the ground is soft enough for you to be able to dig things up from! It was also fun to spot this balloon and have to work my way around the plateau to reach it.

Merengue must've been going through a gardening phase or something, as she was chilling by these flowers for a while this morning.

My big project I felt like doing today was creating a lake on the island, as it could at least start to fill the empty space for now until I come up with an idea for something bigger to build. I just haven't had as much time to play lately, so I'm not sure when/if something will get done. We'll see, though! It'll be nice to have options.

I decided to make some bits players could leap across. I might take these out, but for now it's a fun way to get along the lake. Additionally, I decided to connect the river back up with the western entrance, just like it was when I first arrived on the island! We had removed it when setting up the upper half of the island, but at least for now, I figured why not put it back?

I did decide to see if I could get a bridge put there. I chatted with Clay on the way, and had him say "squeak" since I was thinking of things a hamster might say...

Luckily, I had not reached the bridge limit, so I could put a bridge in! Much more convenient than at the very start of the game. Of course we can pole vault, which I honestly keep forgetting is a thing in the game! People mainly just use it for obstacle courses and mazes. Once you have all your bridges in place, New Horizons can play out like the older Animal Crossing games, just with your own custom town design. That's definitely one of the biggest appeals it has for me still!

Anyways, I had gotten rid of the sand path before I realized I could fit the bridge in, and started building it out again. I'll make it lead to somewhere in the future. I figure this can be a nice walking path around the island, like the walking paths around some of the lakes I go to in real-life on composition walks.

And finally, when the Able Sister's opened, I just liked checking out this duck costume they had on display. Quack quack! :P
