Thursday, November 26, 2020: Turkey Day

Today was Turkey Day in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons! I loaded up the game at about 8:55am, and spent a bit of time getting my fossils and things for the day - I liked how these mushrooms were arranged. I of course grabbed them, just in case!

At 9am, I was able to go chat with Franklin, the pro-chef. He was saying about how he was all set for the feast, apart from ingredients. Typical! A pro-chef without the very first step of cooking! Well, he said he wanted the freshest ingredients from Iyerland's shores, so I offered to help him out with his first dish, some clam chowder.

(I chatted with a couple of my neighbors before starting on my quest.) Quick side note, I absolutely loved the more jazzy rendition of the Harvest Festival theme from past games (with a fun trombone)! A tad annoyed they stuck the New Horizons theme in there, but what can you do. :P

The first thing I had to bring him was 3 manila clams, so I headed over to the beach with my shovel to scoop some up.

I then gave them back to Franklin, and just like in New Leaf from what I remember, it started a cute little cutscene for cooking the dish.

The next dish was for pumpkin pie. I think he was expecting I'd need help, as he told me I can ask around for things I didn't have, but I still had my pumpkin patch up from last month, so I was easily able to grab the pumpkins and we made the pie.

I loaded the game back up later in the afternoon to finish these main meals. When I went into Diana's house, she was cooking something and needed me to give her an ingredient for her dish. She gave me a couple tips for today.

Once I gathered the ingredients for the other two dishes, Franklin told me he wanted to get some special ingredients to put in all four dishes to make them even better. This involved speaking with some of the villagers to ask for their advice - like with Diana, I had to give them an ingredient for them to give me something in exchange. For example, I added a scallop into the clam chowder to make it more delicious. (Or sparkly, at least.)

I did quite a lot of diving today, something I haven't really done much since that summer update. I was able to catch a few new things for the fall/winter season.

Later on in the evening, I spent quite some time swimming trying to find this Dungeness crab, which I finally just caved and asked Avery, who gave one to me, for the final dish.

Once the four dishes were scrumptious, Franklin sent all the Turkey Day DIY recipes to my phone so I can make all the items he hadn't given me! Though he did mention they'd be available in the main shops starting tomorrow, so... Oh, well. It was still fun to 100% complete the event, since I never did in New Leaf.

In a random balloon present during this, I finally got a mushroom DIY recipe! It was something I remember seeing in one of the very first trailers to the game for the fall season from E3 2019, and perhaps in that opening video presentation at the very start of the game, too.

Here's a look at all the Turkey Day stuff in my side room. It's the perfect Thanksgiving setup!

I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving! I'm really looking forward to the holidays, both in real life and in this game! I've been looking forward to winter ever since those initial trailers again, and it's finally coming soon!!
