Friday, December 11, 2020: SNOOOOW!!!

Again, just like my City Folk and New Leaf blogs, see title. :)

It's especially weird seeing snow in New Horizons compared to the past games - this is the longest I've one in my original town without seeing snow blanketing it! It was pretty strange - something I just noticed, I like how the snow doesn't completely make the paths straight. I wonder who swept the snow from the paths?

Anyways - it's definitely gorgeous! I noticed the bushes around my yard changed. For some reason, the polygonal-like triangle reminded me of the winter flowers from the N64 Animal Forest. I'll go out of order and start with the new seasonal stuff first, like finding my first snowball!

In this game, the characters do a kicking animation when the snowballs are smaller, and then start rolling them - it's so cute! Well, I ended up breaking my first snowball - this island is a bit of an obstacle course for them! I never thought about that back in the summer as we were designing it. So instead, I went after snowflakes - just like in New Leaf (as well as the cherry blossom pedals and maple leaves from the spring and summer).

Eventually, I started saving and reloading the game, and the two snowballs would spawn in different locations. I mean hey, just look at some of these obstacles! (The flowers on the left were fine, it's rolling it through our marketplace that's a problem!) I kept breaking them, and eventually got very lucky with their placement, right in a row! I got my first dung beetle out of one of them - wanted to stop the snowball from rolling away!

Anyways, I carefully rolled these two together, and made my first Snowboy in New Horizons! He was perfect, and gave me a DIY recipe for an ice bed. I'm not sure if there are multiple snowmen in this game like in New Leaf - which is a bit of a shame, as I really liked the bingo one, but oh well I guess. Still exciting to make this one, and I'll have to keep making them to get more recipes! (And the recipes require snowflakes, too.)

Alright, so now let me talk about a few other happenings around town. For starters, I remembered to deliver Sherb's gift to Merengue this morning. I didn't post about it, but Sherb said he got in a fight with Merengue last night when I played. (Oddly enough, the snow stopped falling... maybe it kept falling overnight in a blizzard, so we have snow stuck on the ground today. Hmm.)

I also caught this aerobics lesson in the plaza (for some reason in the cold of winter!), some pretty flecks of snow in the bridge, and Diana sitting and reading in her yard.

Funnily enough, later on, her and Sylvana were sort of having a discussion on reading. I guess I didn't capture that dialogue, but Sylvana was saying about how she's boring when she eats dinner and reads before bed. Although that's exactly what I did last night! ...and played New Horizons and Super Mario World...

I ended up playing online with my friends this evening. We were having Internet connection issues all night, which was kind of bizarre - reminded me of the Wi-Fi disconnects of the City Folk days. Oh well. Here are a couple pictures of us in Frobert's house, and me waiting in line to write on Kaitlyn's bulletin board. (I drew a picture of a snowman using the Switch's touch controls.)

There was a beautiful aurora borealis when I walked back into town after a disconnect (routers being worked on...) - after seeing zero days of snowfall on the island prior to yesterday, now I'm getting all the exciting winter scenes in one go!

Sherb was excited to let me know about it too.

I also thought of Cookie barking up the wrong tree when I passed by here here! Get it? Cause she's a dog?? - It's also really pretty seeing the moonlight sparkling on the snow. And I can't exactly see her retro dress because of the top-down view, but I can see this beehive that's been sitting there for who knows how long?!

This was actually earlier on, but I gave Diana a new catchphrase - and her comment even made it fit the holiday Santa feel! And from a balloon, I got iceberg flooring! Wow, even more winter stuff I don't know about! I'm still wondering if the snowman series is in this game - I remember constantly wondering about that in New Leaf.

But yeah, it's gorgeous in the winter, and I can't wait to play more, especially seeing it docked on the TV. Hoping to do some more online play Sunday night as well! Catch you next time!
