Tuesday, June 1, 2021: Lobo, Trees, and Weddings

I've been playing the game pretty regularly this past week, alongside more Zelda: A Link to the Past - working on some videos for the channel, and just having fun relaxing on the island - but I haven't gotten a chance to update the blog. Rather than break it down chronologically, I'll try breaking it up into different sections, for something different. See how it goes.

Villagers

First of all, Lobo the wolf officially moved into town! However, he seems to have brought something with him, as he fell sick the very next day! Poor guy; I was able to get him some medicine.

Bam had me deliver something to Merengue. It's good to see he's getting on well with the other residents of the village, as he's still relatively new.

As I spoke to some villagers, they told me some dialogue I don't recall seeing in the game before. Clay told me about a game he played where he lost his shoes! Diana was fretting about the summertime weathers - don't I know it! It's already a hassle for me in real-life trying to regulate my violin's temperature! And Sylvana was trying to learn magic. I'd love to see her as the magician, with Sherb as her assistant! That'd be so cute!

The Big Trade

Sherb saw I had a PJ outfit on me - I've been enjoying putting on PJs in-game whenever I play late at night, just like I used to wear the nebula shirt (I believe) in the GameCube game as a kid as PJs. I reluctantly gave it to him - can't turn down Sherb!

Later, since I never took it out of my pockets, Sylvana asked me to trade it for her multipurpose vest! Sure, why not, I played along. And never mind; this was actually the last stage of the trade! Not as crazy as I thought, but it did still remind me of the GameCube version in particular when villagers would randomly take your stuff or trade it for other things. Of course in that game, you had no say in the matter!

Items and Dreams

Whenever I'm building something (as I've been doing, hint hint!), I always seem to find lots of balloon presents. One of the things I shot down was this super-neat pinball machine! How cool. Another thing was this Newton's cradle, which was called an "executive toy" in past games - maybe first appearing in Wild World? That's at least where I first got it!

After exploring Hyrule in A Link to the Past one night, I decided to take my puzzle-solving skills back to New Hyrule - that island I've visited a couple times last year! It was still saved during autumn, which was fun to see. I did make progress finding a wet suit, but I couldn't remember how to find the shovel! Well, I may try and livestream this sometime this summer - hype for Breath of the Wild's sequel! I think some of the ground tiles are from A Link to the Past, too. I also ran into Klaus there, who is one of my villagers in my New Leaf series I hadn't met before.

Finally, I revisited Jeff's island Forest. I have some video of my character running through his Mario-themed obstacle course, which references Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Mario Galaxy; and I'll probably put that in a future Moments video. I also rolled around his hay course - h did a great job making a long-lasting and compact mini-game here! I loved the UFOs too - almost a reference to City Folk!

Jeff also recently redecorated his basement to be a scene from Lost. I haven't seen that show, so I didn't quite get the reference, but I liked it! And putting it next to this chess table he had makes me wish for the giant chess pieces to return. Come on, Nintendo... please? I'm already hoping for a big 2.0 update announced at E3 this year! Such a lovely way to keep up hype for things in the game even while it's in our hands. :P

Trees

One of my projects has me planting several trees in an area. You might be able to guess what it is, but I don't want to spoil the video! It'll be coming next week, so don't worry. Anyways, I guess I have never planted saplings before, and so I got this Nook Miles card completely filled out within 5 minutes. Nice.

Blathers blathers

I caught a violin beetle on a tree stump, and seeing as I love the violin, I thought I'd go ask Blathers about it at the museum. He told me the fact they named this violin-shaped bug such was an insult to violins! I think it shows music truly being a thing found in nature, or some poetic thing like that... I did write a violinist.com post on violins crafted in Middle-Earth!

Wedding Season

And finally, we come to June 1st! Harvey came to ask me to come over to his island. I was just playing to capture some footage, so I planned to do it later. I did notice one of these bushes bloomed overnight for the start of June... or summer, I'm not really sure.

I did end up playing later tonight, and focused solely on the wedding event. I did it some last year, and got the pipe organ out of it, pretty much the only thing I was interested in. I believe the intro cutscene to the event when I landed on Harv's Island was the exact same, too.

At any rate, Reese remembered I had done this for them last year and assured me it was no different. Tonight I worked on a wedding set for them. I both didn't put too much thought into it and also put in a little too much effort, I think... I also learned you can put violins on floating blocks! Never thought that scenario would come up, but here we are.

Here's a look at what I came up with. It was kind of fun to use items that weren't in the game at this point last year.

Reese told me I should have had more pink (I tried to do the pink star clocks!). Her system of judging the photo I took, mainly because it came out recently, reminds me of the Pokémon Snap series a little bit.

I did get some Pieces Of Heart I could transfer over to Zelda heart crystals to get items from Cyrus. I couldn't remember if the wedding cake was one of the options last year or not, so I went ahead and got it anyway.

And finally, I liked seeing the owls and Harv's spinning wind thingie outside his cabin on his island. He seems happy to just chill. I like the wood stove too - he has a very natural way of life for sure! Camping and nature have been on the brain for a bit now... again, hinting at future projects...?

Whew! There we go. I'll probably be able to go back to regular blog posts from now on; still not every time I play, but whenever something interesting happens. And I've got some fun videos on my channel scheduled! I'm planning to continue my New Leaf series every so often, but for whatever reason I can't get into playing my 3DS as much or that game. So, I've got lots of New Horizons content ahead - especially if Nintendo does drop a big 2.0 update on us soon! Here's hoping!

Until then, and beyond, Never Stop Crossing!
