Friday, May 1: May Day

I was intrigued by the new May Day event Nintendo was sharing on Twitter and such, so I loaded up the game this afternoon to check it out. First, as we'd figured out how to move mailboxes, mine is now where my fence is - Sqaishey has done something similar. :)

Once I got a ticket from Tom Nook, I was able to fly out to a big hedge maze. I got all sorts of Zelda vibes from this... Breath of the Wild's Eventide Island, where they took away Link's equipment and armor, is present here as you can't bring anything with you to the maze. And the maze itself plays out very much like a traditional Zelda dungeon, with Animal Crossing-themed puzzles you have to solve to make it through. There are little pits of water to jump through, and you have to gather fruit and find materials around the island (and a crafting table!) to make an axe and chop down the three trees leading to the exit, which was like a locked door. I managed to also grab some of the bonus Bell vouchers too.

At the end of the maze, Rover the cat (who would introduce players to the world of Animal Crossing in the previous entries) was there, and he gave me his briefcase. All in all, it was a really neat "gaming" event! I'll enjoy watching the rest of my family (and a few YouTubers) attempt the maze in the next few days while it's available.
