Tuesday, September 1, 2020: Crickets and Acorns

I played briefly this morning - the grass has changed to a slightly lighter green! "Mom" also sent me a letter today about this weird time of year, late-summer and early-fall.

I also saw Tom Nook had some pumpkins outside his store. Just like the stores in real-life, our shop-keepers are preparing for Halloween way too early. :P

Later in the early evening, I was excited to catch my first cricket and bell cricket in New Horizons. I have memories with these bugs (like the summer cicadas) representing fall. According to my Snapchat memories, I caught both of these bugs in Wild World on the DS exactly one year ago as well! So yes, Sylvana - I am good at catching bugs. :P

Blathers agreed that the song of the crickets come with the start of fall.

Another bug that I remember fondly from the 2002 trailer to the original Animal Crossing on GameCube, of all things, is the red dragonfly, which is another great fall bug. Is that a DnD reference in New Horizons?

I found a piece of gold in a rock, and with the new update, my character came up with a DIY recipe for the King Tut mask! I need five pieces of gold for it, so I'm sure I'll make it eventually.

Don't you hate it when you're going to pick up a tiny pebble and you accidentally pick up the whole of Stonehenge instead?

My net broke as well, and I went and bought a new net from Nook's - it matched my shirt!

As I was writing this post and looking back at some of the past Animal Crossing games, I remembered the acorns from the DS version, and recalled from Nintendo's September trailer we can collect acorns in the Switch game! So I went and got exactly one acorn and one pinecone from a couple of trees for this post. (I'll probably play a bit more later tonight to see how many more I can gather today.)
