Monday, March 23, 2020: Scaling Heights

Lots of exciting stuff happening in these early entries. I realize in New Leaf I didn't start blogging from the start; I'm glad I'm getting all this documentation here for New Horizons!

I got a letter from Daisy Mae, Joan's granddaughter! She'll be replacing Joan's role in previous games. I wonder if Joan herself will appear in this game...?

At Tom Nook's morning message, he got interrupted with a mysterious call... Before heading into his tent to inquire about it, I first checked out the Nooklings' new shop! (The museum will be built tomorrow - just like in New Leaf, we have to wait a day.) Mabel was there; for now she'll be selling her clothes there! I know we'll get to build the Able Sisters later on - now I can choose: put them close together like in Wild World, or far apart like in GameCube? (Veteran fans will probably know what I'm on about...)

Just like in New Leaf, we had to have a little ceremony for the completion of the shop. I like how Tom Nook mentions taking a picture - it's like he knew I have this blog! :)

Tom Nook wants to expand the population of the island (did I ever mention in this blog it's called Iyerland? When I was contemplating it on stream, I realized Liontown made slightly less sense now since it's an island...). - Anyways, he apparently made requests for three houses to be built on the island, and each one has some required furniture, both indoors and outdoors, that I need to provide for them. Lots of work! Before I could get to that, I had to build a bridge. I worked on some of this in the evening; for now, I wrote my sister a birthday card in the game using the Bunny Day limited-time paper I was talking about in yesterday's post.

Also, breaking news, Lyman and Mira have built their own houses! I guess other residents moving here (I believe from the other islands my sister and I both went to) don't want to live in tents. I absolutely love the house designs in this game, similar to the various fancy house designs in Wild World - and New Leaf as well I suppose. But they just look so gorgeous in HD - everything does!

(I also show off me using the fruit energy feature to bust open this rock. I hope the rocks will regenerate...!)

Alright, switching to playing on the TV at night with my family before my sister spent another couple hours fishing... She wanted me to get the ladder in order to catch fish at the mouth of the river. Once I built a bridge, Tom Nook gave me the three home construction kits, complete with orders on what items I need to gather. One of those items is a wreath, so he provided me with the recipe to make a ladder so I can gather some of the flowers on the clifftop. I love how creative the locking-off of parts of the island is in this game! But with the ladder, we now have access to the entire island - it really is huge!

We spaced out the houses so they come together in a neighborhood area, combined with a shopping district. I assume we'll be able to move things around later on. I just love the way the moonlight reflects off the river...

One other thing I redeemed with Nook Miles (and also learned from my family about getting slightly upgraded tools, which I'll have to try out!) was this tool wheel - something I saw Martyn InTheLittleWood Tweeting about the other day. Instead of City Folk's system of cycling tools, which is available from the start here, now you can easily switch between tools via this wheel - it actually reminds me of the item wheel in Skyward Sword, which I definitely mentioned in some 2011 blog post when that game first came out! Love the quality-of-life features the developers thought to include. This game really is the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or Super Mario Odyssey of Animal Crossing on the Switch. :)

I'll leave you with some of the work my sister did in the afternoon while I was streaming Super Paper Mario. She gathered up bamboo and set up some pine trees in a symmetrical fashion behind her house. Once we get the museum tomorrow, I assume she'll be the one donating all the fish!
